Situation map of 779

01

In the fourteenth year of the Gregorian calendar (779), Emperor Dezong of Tang succeeded to the throne.

At this time, after the Tang Dynasty was destroyed by the "Anshi Rebellion", power had been concentrated in the hands of Jiedushi, and the imperial court had become an empty shelf.

Li Shi was determined to change this situation.

Two years later, Li Baochen was killed by chengde jiedushi, and according to the "custom", his son Li Weiyue should be the new Chengde jiedushi envoy.

In Tang Dezong's view, this is a good opportunity to "kill chickens and scare monkeys".

Therefore, Tang Dezong did not crown Li Weiyue according to the custom.

Li Weiyue looked at it, I leaned on, the boss moved the real thing!

Together with Wei Bo, Tian Yue, Ziqing, Li Zhengji, and Shannan's Eastern Province, Liang Chongyi, rebelled together.

Tang Dezong was suffering from no excuse to act, and when he saw that they had rebelled, he immediately ordered Youzhou to stay behind Zhu Tao and Huaixi Jiedu to put an end to Li Xilie.

The Son of Heaven gave him the iron coupon for immunity from death, and he was furious: This is doubting me, so he rebelled...

However, these four people really had no life to rebel, and not long after, Ziqing Jiedu caused Li Zhengji to fall ill and die, and his son Li Na took over the banner of anti-Tang, but he was always besieged by the Tang army.

Shannan's Eastern Province Jiedu made Liang Chongyi simply wipe his neck after being defeated by the counterinsurgency;

As soon as Li Weiyue's subordinate Wang Wujun saw that the general situation had gone, he killed Li Weiyue and surrendered to the imperial court.

In the end, only Tian Yue was still stubbornly resisting.

Wang Wujun's loyalty to the imperial court greatly touched Tang Dezong, such a loyal subject, how to do it without vigorous promotion, so he appointed him as the secretary of the inspection school, the young superintendent, the imperial history, the Hengzhou Assassin History, and the Hengji Capital Regiment to practice observation, and actually sealed five hundred households.

But Wang Wujun was not satisfied, Lao Tzu had made such a great contribution, but he did not even mix with a festival, is this not bullying?

Tian Yue took the opportunity to persuade Wang Wujun and Zhu Tao to turn against Tang.

Wait, wasn't Zhu Tao sent by the Tang De Sect to suppress the rebellion, and how could he wear the same pants as the rebels?

It turned out that the imperial court ordered him to return to Zhenyouzhou, he was unwilling, he wanted to go to Shenzhou, and the imperial court did not agree to him, so he resented the imperial court, and Tian Yue waved his hand and went with him.

Wang Wujun and Zhu Taoyi joined the rebels, and Tian Yue and Li Na immediately came back to life.

There was no way, the heavy responsibility of counterinsurgency could only fall on Li Xilie's shoulders once again.

Who knew that Li Xilie saw a huge opportunity from this chaotic situation, and also rebelled against the imperial court, and called himself the King of Jianxing and the Marshal of the World Capital.

In August 783, Li Xilie led 20,000 soldiers and horses to besiege Xiangcheng, Henan.

The imperial court ordered Yao Lingyan, the envoy of Jingyuan Jiedu, to lead 5,000 soldiers and horses to quickly rescue Xiangcheng.

At that time, Jingyuan had jurisdiction over Jing and the former two prefectures, which corresponded to the area east of Liupan Mountain in present-day Gansu and Ningxia, and the area west of the Puhe River, which was thousands of miles away from Henan.

So when the troops set out, they also brought their families with them.

When passing through the capital, Tang Dezong was indeed very touched, and made King Jingzhao Yin treat them.

But this King Hong did not know whether to fill his own pockets or how, and all he gave to the soldiers was coarse grains and wild vegetables.

This can make the officers and soldiers angry: We dragged our families and mouths, and we were ready to die on the battlefield for the imperial court, but the imperial court treated us as beasts, which forced us to rebel, so we will satisfy them!

The soldiers did not leave, and after beating the drums for a while, they rushed in the direction of the treasury, where they were going to get something that "could live."

Yao Lingyan was so anxious that his forehead was sweating, his hands were extended, and he stopped the soldiers and said, Don't be reckless, this is not the way to go, when you get to Luoyang, there will be bread, and there will be milk!

The soldiers who were extremely angry, where they could still listen to his advice, forced him to force him to retreat, and seeing that the crowd was angry and difficult to commit, Yao Lingyan could only agree to the soldiers.

Tang Dezong was shocked to hear that the soldiers had rebelled, and urgently ordered Neiku to quickly send twenty truckloads of supplies to replenish, and at the same time ordered King Pu and the scholar Jiang Gongfu to rush to appease.

Unexpectedly, as soon as the two men left the palace gate, the rebellious soldiers broke through the inner gate and occupied Chang'an on the same day, and Tang Dezong fled to Fengtian (present-day Qianxian County, Shaanxi), known in history as the "Fengtian Rebellion".

03

After the "Fengtian Rebellion", the rebels pulled out Zhu Zhu, a lieutenant who was idle at home, and wanted to ask him to be the new emperor.

Zhu Zhu, who had long wanted to rejuvenate the second spring of his life, could not ask for it in his heart, but he did not dare to easily agree, because he did not understand the true intentions of the rebel generals.

So he used good wine and good food to entertain Yao Lingyan and others who came to see him, and observed their true intentions.

Unexpectedly, the rebel generals all came, only to kneel down for him, Zhu Zhu saw that they were so sincere, unlike fooling him, he immediately agreed.

After that, Zhu Zhu came to the Xuanzheng Hall, established himself as emperor, and zheng'er got a national name called "Great Qin".

Although he was called emperor, Zhu Zhu still had a knot in his heart, that is, Li Shi, and only by killing him could Zhu Zhu, the emperor, be worthy of his name.

But he couldn't blatantly kill the emperor, so he sent the Jingyuan general Han Min to lead three thousand cavalry to Fengtian, in the name of Yingchao.

In this way, three thousand cavalry came to Fengtian with great momentum.

04

At that time, only the Gyeonggi Weibei Festival Observance made Hun Zhen.

When Tang Dezong saw that such a few people were fighting against Zhu Zhu, he hit the stone with an egg, so he immediately asked Shuofang Jiedu to make Li Huaiguang, and the Shen ce army to make Li Sheng and others rush to Qinwang.

As soon as Zhu Zhu saw that Tang Dezong had shaken so many people, he was immediately instigated and had to retreat to Chang'an.

When Tang Dezong saw that Zhu Zhu had retired from the army, his hanging heart finally let go, but before he was happy for long, another piece of news almost made Tang Dezong vomit blood - Li Huaiguang was the opposite!

The Son of Heaven gave him the iron coupon for immunity from death, and he was furious: This is doubting me, so he rebelled...

Li Huaiguang

And the reason for his rebellion was quite ridiculous: it turned out that Li Huaiguang had made a meritorious effort to save the driver, so Tang Dezong made him a lieutenant, and gave him an iron coupon to avoid death, pardoning him for three capital crimes.

But in Li Huaiguang's view, this is the big boss distrusting him and suspecting him of disloyalty, and he threw the death-free iron coupon on the ground on the spot:

The saint is suspicious of light and evil? Mortal subjects rebel, but give iron coupons, and now give glory, it is the opposite!

In this way, Li Huaiguang also reversed, forcing Tang Dezong to flee to Hanzhong.

After that, he openly cooperated with Zhu Zhu and launched a thousand-mile pursuit of Tang Dezong.

05

It was also Tang Dezong's fate that should not be extinguished, Li Huaiguang's reason for rebellion was really too ridiculous, his subordinates betrayed him one after another, and his power became weaker and weaker.

When Zhu Zhu saw that Li Huaiguang was in trouble, he also began to fall into the well, and not only gave him advice, but also asked him to contribute a part of the army and let him dispatch it.

Enraged, Li Huaiguang decisively parted ways with Zhu Zhu and led his army to flee back to Yongji, Shanxi, where he was soon beheaded by Niu Mingjun, a general of the Shuofang army.

Seeing that contradictions had arisen within the enemy, Tang Dezong quickly ordered the Divine Strategy Army to march to the camp and make Li Sheng lead the troops to quell the rebellion.

In June of the first year of the Xingyuan Dynasty (784 CE), under the heavy blows of Li Sheng and several other Tang armies, Zhu Zhu, who had collapsed, planned to flee to Tubo, but was killed by his generals on the way.

On July 13, Tang Dezong finally returned to Chang'an.

At this point, although this lasted less than a year, the harm to the Tang Dynasty was no less than that of the "Anshi Rebellion", and it was quelled.

From the "Anshi Rebellion" that broke out in 755 to the "Fengtian Rebellion" that broke out in 783, in less than thirty years, the Tang Dynasty suffered two heavy blows in a row, and even the gods could not save it...
