Crest introduces new safety-critical batteries to optimize vehicle performance in real time

According to foreign media reports, car battery manufacturer Clarios announced that it will launch a new safety-critical battery Clarios Smart AGM (absorbent glass mat, absorbent glass mat) for electric vehicles in the next two to three years. The battery will monitor its performance in real time, provide continuous low-voltage power to optimize low-voltage power supply performance, predict battery maintenance needs, and provide safety-critical operations.

To meet growing consumer demands for safety, comfort and connectivity, many OEMs have opted for Clarios AGM batteries to handle the increasing electrical loads of current vehicles. Electric vehicles require advanced low-voltage batteries as key components of multi-battery systems to help provide continuous low-voltage power and provide critical safety features in emergency moments. As more and more autonomous driving features are added, vehicles will rely more on low-voltage batteries.

Mark Wallace, CEO of Crest, said: "Clarios Smart AGM will revolutionize the industry by providing reliable, safety-critical batteries with real-time communication capabilities. The battery combines AGM's proven reliability, inherent safety chemistry and sustainability with the real-time intelligence of Smart technology. In addition, the battery will further expand our Clarios xEV portfolio. ”

Smart AGM features

Clarios Smart AGM provides superior functional safety performance to support vehicle reliability, providing real-time communication: identifying potential battery problems before problems occur; providing critical emergency power for electric and autonomous vehicles; anticipating maintenance or replacement; and optimizing low-voltage power supply performance.

Clarios Smart AGM provides the most reliable 12V power management system for functional safety in critical vehicle operations, including advanced safety and autonomous driving applications. Designed to reduce or eliminate internal failure modes, this Smart AGM battery provides continuous power without leakage during a collision, and monitors battery performance over time, supporting multiple vehicle use cases.

Currently, 12V batteries are managed through external sensors placed on top of the battery. With smart AGM, Crest has developed an integrated approach to electronic devices in batteries.

Jason Searl, Vice President of Product Management at Crest, said: "Smart AGM monitors its performance in real time. The battery system senses, diagnoses, and communicates battery condition, supports safety-critical functions, and predicts required maintenance or replacement. ”
