Biography

Li Yefu, the 3rd Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is a professor at Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He practiced medicine for sixty years and saved many patients from the torment of illness. He is committed to the teaching and research of Tuina medicine, has written a series of Tuina monographs, and cultivated hundreds of TCM Tuina professionals.

On the back of the hand, the green tendons burst out and the bones are clear. Looking closely, Li Yefu's hand was covered with calluses from his fingers to his palms.

In the depths of winter, the weather is cold. The body bones are just a little bit, and Li Yefu, who was suspended for a year and a half due to illness, returned to the clinical frontline. In the Master Of Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic of Anhui Provincial Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, he was busy again.

Treat diseases with one pair of hands

"Hands up, does it hurt?" Is it numb? Between massages, Li Yefu, who was nearly ninety years old, gently asked Xiao Peng, who had come to consult. The weather was cold, but 11-year-old Xiaopeng felt that Grandpa Li's hands were very warm and "not painful". Not long after learning that XiaoPeng had just finished surgery, Li Yefu put on his glasses, looked up slightly, faced the light, picked up the film results, and looked carefully.

After that, Li Yefu spread his left palm, clenched his fist with his right hand, placed it on top of Xiao Peng's head, and tapped it a few times. Immediately after, along the spine, move to the shoulder and neck and press slightly. In the outpatient room, three or four apprentices gathered around and watched carefully.

In October last year, gu could not fully recover, Li Yefu ran back to the clinic, "after a lifetime of work, I can't help it!"

Every morning, Li Yefu was full of thoughts about what patients were in the outpatient clinic, "Some patients come from far away, my hands, can do a little is a little." While pressing the button, Li Yefu still turned his hand at will.

When he was young, his family was poor, and there were many brothers and sisters, he worked as a cattle herder and lived in a thatched hut. "Later, a younger brother fell ill and died, which made me determined to study medicine." Li Yefu recalled.

Without injections, without taking medicine, kneading and pressing with both hands can cure the disease. After several turns, TCM tuina aroused Li Yefu's interest, "No need to buy medicine, a pair of hands can be pushed and kneaded to treat the disease, how rare." ”

After graduating from Hefei Medical School and training at the Tuina School Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Li Yefu was assigned to work in the Affiliated Hospital of Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1962 and began to engage in Tuina medicine. Before him, few people in Anhui were engaged in tuina medical work. "At that time, in addition to the theory lessons, I also had to learn techniques, and there were many acupuncture points, not only memorizing, but also practicing, and it was not easy at all." Li Yefu said.

Standing on the balcony to move your bones, stretching out your arms to draw circles, shaking your hands back and forth; practicing your techniques against sandbags, day after day, studying carefully. After a long time of baptism, Li Yefu's massage technique has become more and more mature, and more and more patients have been treated. As time went on, a layer of calluses developed between his fingers.

"For so many years, Teacher Li has been thinking about patients. Even outpatient fees are charged according to the standards of general specialist outpatient clinics. Attending physician Zhang Yan said.

Hone your skills with a pair of hands

A small tube building, a square, like a cold kiln in winter, and a steamer in summer. Sitting in it, consulting during the day, summarizing at night, such days, Li Yefu has passed for decades.

A pair of hands, able to operate between the fingers, kneading, pinching, rubbing, rubbing on the surface of the patient's body; picking up a pen, holding the book, the problems encountered in the consultation and innovative ideas, but also in a stroke and a stroke between the bits and pieces of records.

In the summer, a heat wave hits. There was no fan, a basin of cold water was placed on the ground, Li Yefu dipped his feet in, relying on cool water to dissipate the heat.

In the past few decades, Li Yefu has published more than 40 academic papers and edited 17 medical monographs. At the same time, writing textbooks and designing lesson plans, he thought "to benefit more people." Systematically using Tuina diagnosis and treatment techniques and skill techniques, Li Yefu pioneered the "Li's Tuina Traction Reduction Method" and "Li's Positioning Rotation Reduction Method", which have high value in Traditional Chinese medicine Tuina.

TCM tuina needs to be both inherited and innovated. Because of perennial manual labor, many workers in Ma'anshan have lumbar spondylosis and cervical spine pain, and everyone comes to Li Yefu for treatment. Tuina traction therapy relies on human efforts to pull the patient's limb apart for joint reduction. "Some are dragging hands, some are pulling legs, and at least 4 people need to be dragged." Li Yefu said that this is not only time-consuming and laborious, but sometimes the effect is very poor.

Why not design a traction reset bed? One is to liberate manpower, and the other is to control the strength.

When all was said and done, Li Yefu and the workers brainstormed together to design drawings and study plans. In the 1970s, a traction bed made of steel and hand-cranked was introduced. "With this bed, the efficacy has been significantly improved and the course of treatment has been significantly shortened." Initially, the traction reduction bed had only simple functions. Today, the traction reset bed has evolved to a versatile third-generation version.

Pass it on by hand

Shoulder sinking, wrist end flat, fingers solid, palm weak, Li Yefu held an empty fist in his hand, pushed slowly, pressed on the back of the shoulder.

"Different parts, the strength of the technique is different. Among them, prioritization, softness and depth, there is a lot of attention. In the outpatient room, Li Yefu demonstrated while explaining, and the students around him looked carefully and hurriedly recorded the next pen.

At the age of nearly ninety, in the front line of diagnosis and treatment, Li Yefu was eager to pass on the tuina technique of "touching the heart with the hand and using it freely" to future generations. "The tuina technique is very important, and it will only work when it is done properly." In Li Yefu's view, no matter how well he speaks, it is better to teach by hand. After ten years of practicing, Zhang Yan still remembers the days when she first joined the company to practice her techniques. "Practice on molds and sandbags first, familiarize yourself with the location of cervical vertebrae, and then use it on your colleagues." After practicing for at least an hour a day, it took two years for Zhang Yan to truly put her craft into practice.

Rigorous in his studies, Li Yefu treats patients very gently, "Teacher Li asked very carefully, plus physical examination, a patient takes more than 20 minutes." "This style has gradually infected Zhang Yan." When asking, you always have to ask very carefully to feel thorough. Zhang Yan said.

In addition to clinical teaching, there are new courses in the traditional Chinese medicine master inheritance studio from time to time. There was no blackboard, no teaching materials, Li Yefu held two pages of thin paper, answering questions for students one by one. "What standards should you demand of yourself clinically?" "How do I determine the specific point of the reset?" ...... Speaking of the rise, Li Yefu will also call the questioner to come forward, shake hands, point at the point, and personally demonstrate.

With the establishment of Tuina professional classes and the establishment of the Inheritance Studio, Li Yefu has trained hundreds of TCM Tuina professionals over the years. To this day, even if some students are already department heads, Li Yefu will still take their medical records to look closely. "Not only look at it, but also correct it." This also makes us more serious in diagnosis and treatment, and we dare not slack off a little. Zhang Yan said frankly.

"While you can still move, you should train more students and treat more patients." Li Yefu's thin hands were pushing and rubbing the dots and points, which were particularly powerful.
