Chen Lizhen was born in 1907 in Xiao County, Anhui Province. As a student, he actively participated in the patriotic student movement, gradually accepted revolutionary ideas, and joined the Communist Party of China in 1928 as the youth minister of the Xiaoxian County Committee of the Communist Party of China. The following spring, Chen Lizhen went to Shanghai to study, and it was during this period that he met qin Yafen, the love of his life and the best revolutionary comrade-in-arms, and eventually married.

After studying in Shanghai, the husband and wife were transferred to Xuzhou to work, and Chen Lizhen successively served as the propaganda director of the rebuilt Zhongxu Haiben Special Committee, the secretary of the CPC Changhuai Special Committee, and the special commissioner of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee. In the summer of 1931, Chen Lizhen was transferred to the secretary of the Shanghai Hudong District Committee of the Communist Party of China.
After the outbreak of the 128 Anti-Japanese War in Shanghai in 1932, he led the workers and citizens of Hudong District to actively support the 19th Route Army's War of Resistance, organized transport teams, aid teams and anti-Japanese salvation congresses, and promoted the struggle against the Japanese occupation of Shanghai. In October of the same year, the party organization decided to send the couple to the Soviet Union to study together. Unfortunately, the news was learned by the traitors, and soon the Kuomintang reactionary military police arrested Chen Lizhen at his residence and escorted him to the Nanjing Gendarmerie Headquarters.

In prison, Chen Lizhen was tortured in all kinds and beaten to the ground, but he still firmly expressed his revolutionary will: "I have the blood of the Chinese nation in my veins, I was born with a steel and iron bone, and I should never be a traitor." Fortunately, his wife Qin Yafen was not at home at the time of the arrest and was spared this robbery. In November 1932, Chen Lizhen calmly took up his righteousness at Yuhuatai.
After Chen Lizhen's sacrifice, for safety reasons, Qin Yafen sent her daughter Chen Wenyan to her aunt's house in the countryside for foster care. Unexpectedly, the bloody environment of revolutionary struggle made the mother and daughter separate for twenty-six years, and Chen Wenyan never knew that she still had such a secret hidden in her, until she was reunited with her mother after the founding of the Country, so that she learned about her own life.
