Apple AR retinal projection patent, vision correction, fixation rendering are all available

Recently, the United States Patent and Trademark Office published an AR-related patent (US 11,215,829 B2) that points to an AR scheme based on retinal projection and reflective holographic combiner.

Apple AR retinal projection patent, vision correction, fixation rendering are all available

Apple pointed out in the patent that the AR/VR glasses solution includes a reflective holographic combiner that projects light into the user's eyes through an optical engine. In addition, ambient light will also penetrate the human eye. The holographic combiner and optical engine can adjust the resolution and FOV of the image into the human eye according to the visual acuity of the human eye.

In terms of details, the optical engine will include multiple independent light sources (laser diode arrays, LEDs, etc.), distributed optical waveguides, dual-axis scanners, layered optical waveguides, and focusing elements, which can dynamically adjust the resolution according to the user's fixation points and achieve fixation rendering.
