The Tesla Model X Plaid will only offer a six-seater option

Tesla recently modified the Model X Plaid seat option and will now only offer a six-seater configuration, after the car had five and seven seats to choose from, but Tesla has apparently eliminated them.

Tesla's Model X Plaid was last updated and revamped in late 2020 and early 2021, when Tesla added some new features to the new Model X Plaid: including a profile steering wheel, a rear entertainment screen and a new central dashboard screen, among other changes.

Initially, the Model X Plaid offered customers five- and seven-seat options, as well as the most expensive six-seat configuration, a three-seater two-seater (the seven-seat option has a three-seat intermediate row).

Tesla removed the Model X Plaid five- and seven-seater options from its online configurator earlier today, leaving only the six-seater option that requires an additional $6,500, which is now the only option customers can order a Model X Plaid model.

We don't yet know why Tesla eliminated the other two options, but it's important to note that both the five-seat and seven-seat interiors have three middle rows. With supply chain shortages and other bottlenecks affecting automakers around the world, Tesla may struggle to get the necessary parts for the middle row. Although Tesla makes its own seats at a specialized seat factory next to its Fremont plant in Northern California, it still has to source some parts from third-party dealers, which may be the reason for the elimination of the other two seat options.

It's unclear whether Tesla will add the Model X Plaid's five- or seven-seat option in the future. Tesla's Model X Plaid is currently priced at $126,490 (excluding potential costs of about 806,000 yuan), and delivery is expected to be postponed until October 2022.
