On September 27, 1945, MacArthur, commander-in-chief of the U.S. Allied Forces in Japan, was given the task of dealing with Japan's postwar problems and went to Japan to talk with Emperor Hirohito. MacArthur was a straightforward man, and as soon as he met him, he asked Emperor Hirohito why he didn't apologize for his sins. Unexpectedly, Emperor Hirohito sneered and replied with four words: "There is nothing I can do."
What does "powerless" mean? In fact, after the defeat, the Japanese emperor blamed all the faults on his officers, and said that all this was their idea, and he was forced to be helpless, and bitterly advised them not to go to war easily, but he could not do anything about it. Therefore, after Japan's defeat at the end of World War II, only Hideki Tojo, the 40th Prime Minister of Japan, was sentenced by the International Military Tribunal to hang for waging war, crimes against humanity and other crimes.
Of course, part of the reason is that the Japanese people's belief in the Japanese emperor at that time was deeply rooted in their bones. Therefore, if the Japanese emperor is punished, it will cause a large-scale riot in the Japanese.
