When Macao first returned to the motherland, this "Song of the Seven Sons - Macao" came out, and I don't know how many people's tears were aroused. "Song of the Seven Sons" is a famous chinese scholar Mr. Wen Yiduo, who deeply felt the pain and helplessness of the wanderer leaving home when he studied in the United States, and thought of several pieces of territory that were ceded and leased, so he anthropomorphized it and wrote this group of poems.
Since it is "Song of the Seven Sons", there must be not only one "away from home" child in Macao, but the remaining sons are Hong Kong, Taiwan, Luda (Lushun, Dalian), Kowloon Island, Weihaiwei, and the Guangzhou Bay today. Guangzhou Bay is not Guangzhou, but the old name of Zhanjiang. This matter has to start from the Sino-Japanese War that broke out in 1894.
The following year, on April 17, 1895, Li Hongzhang signed the Treaty of Maguan on behalf of the Qing government, which included a clause ceding the Liaodong Peninsula to Japan. Six days later, Russia, Germany, and France intervened to force Japan to return the Liaodong Peninsula to China, which is the famous "three-country intervention to return the Liao" incident.
But are these three countries really well-intentioned? Certainly not, they want to take this opportunity to get greater benefits from China. They used the excuse of "three countries interfering to return the Liao" to let the Qing government give certain compensation. For example, Germany's strong lease of Jiaozhou Bay ("Jiao'ao Lease Treaty"), Russia's strong lease of Luda (by the way, the "Luda Lease Treaty" was also signed by Li Hongzhang), and France stationed in Guangzhou Bay.
In 1897, French warships stormed Guangzhou Bay and built the "White Watt City" here. This aroused strong dissatisfaction among the people of Guangzhou Bay, who took up all the weapons at hand, and more than 500 people formed an "anti-French army" to directly attack the French garrison in Guangzhou Bay; the rest of the people who could not follow directly to the streets also had money to contribute to the strong force, and even set up an anti-French regiment to practice and resist the law for the whole people.
The people fought with the belief of "taking every inch of land as gold and fighting with Yi", but they were ultimately defeated by the qing government's concessions. The following year, in 1898, the Qing government signed the Sino-French Treaty on the Mutual Signing of the Canton Bay Concession with France, which "leased" Guangzhou Bay to France for a period of 99 years.
The only thing that can comfort the people of Guangzhou Bay is probably that under their resistance, the french concession area that was originally one hundred and dozens of miles deep was finally only thirty miles. Even Guo Moruo wrote a poem for the people of Guangzhou Bay to resist the law: "A thousand cannons and a thousand blood, an inch of rivers and mountains and an inch of gold." ”
Later, when the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression broke out and Guangzhou Bay was occupied by Japan, the people of the area were able to firmly oppose the French at first, but now they are also stubbornly resisting Japan. Later, after the end of the War of Resistance Against Japan and the defeat of Japan, because the people of Guangzhou Bay were too fierce, In 1945, China and France signed a treaty again, but this time it was not a treaty of loss of power and humiliation, but through the "Treaty between the Government of the Republic of China and the Provisional Government of France on the Transfer of The Lease land of Guangzhou Bay", france returned Guangzhou Bay, which had been occupied for 47 years.
At the end of 1945, all French personnel were evacuated from Guangzhou Bay; the following year, Guangzhou Bay was renamed Zhanjiang, and the people guarded their homeland!
