Sony said the new company aims to use AI and robotics in the best possible way to help achieve a world where everyone can live in harmony with robots, so that people can be moved and benefit society. The company's businesses include VISION-S, which contributes to the evolution of mobility, the autonomous entertainment robot aibo, and the drone Airpeak, and Sony will create value in a richer range of areas.
On the 4th of this month, Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said, "We are exploring the business process of Sony electric vehicles. Kenichiro Yoshida said that the company's exploration of the electric vehicle industry will show how "creative entertainment companies" can "redefine (vehicle) mobility."

According to public information on Sony's website, on January 7, 2020, Sony announced the launch of the prototype VISION-S 01 at CES 2020 and exhibited the first prototype. After CES 2020, the prototype was transported from Las Vegas to the Sony Development Center in Graz, Austria, which is undergoing joint development with partner companies such as Magna Steyr.
In December 2020, Sony and its partners started public road tests in Austria to evaluate the safety of VISION-S and Sony technology.
In April 2021, Sony and Vodafone started 5G driving testing of the VISION-S Prototype in Aldenhofen, Germany. To verify the possibility of low-latency transmission of various sensor data acquired by the vehicle to the cloud, as well as real-time control.
On January 4, 2022, Sony and Davaophon of Germany conducted a remote driving test using the VISION-S prototype, and in this driving test connecting Tokyo and Germany, the telematics system installed in the German VISION-S was used to transmit video and control signals to a remote location with low latency, and demonstrated the smooth operation of the vehicle in Tokyo.
Although Sony has only recently officially announced that it will enter the field of electric vehicles, since 2020, Sony has been preparing for this, and the models manufactured on the relevant platforms have been tested for more than a year.
Judging from the small amount of news released by Sony, in the field of electric vehicles, Sony will give full play to its accumulated experience in other fields and apply it to electric vehicles.
Sony officially announced that using Sony's own technology, communication knowledge and safety technology accumulated during the development of smartphones, Sony has listed remote control as an important technology in the era of automatic driving. To fully realize this technology vision, Sony has implemented driving tests to connect Japan and Germany via 5G and is currently working with partners to leverage the telematics system installed in VISION-S 01 to enable low-latency transmission (video and control signals) as well as communication control (monitoring and forecasting).
