Starting from Mitsubishi's 4G63 series engine, from reverse development to independent research and development, this success is worthy of recognition, among which many representative engines have emerged, such as Chery's 1.5/1.6T, Changan's Blue Whale 1.5T/2.0T and Great Wall's 1.5T, with a high degree of autonomy and basically self-sufficiency. And the measured feedback and car experience show that they and the joint venture brand engine gap is not large.

However, compared with the success of the engine, in the transmission part, the domestic brand is still in its infancy, and it has not yet been able to achieve a big step forward to catch up with the level of the joint venture.
I don't believe you close your eyes and think about it, talking about the domestic engine head is the way, but how many domestic transmission manufacturers can you say?
Is it Shengrui or Dongan, fast or Wanliyang, Dongfeng or Auspicious? Domestic gearboxes are not without at present, and more models are equipped with dual-clutch transmissions.
As for the AT transmission, it's not that we can't build it, it's just that it can't be built well. For example, 6AT and 8AT are not nothing, but in terms of popularity and influence and stable reliability, they are far less than brands such as Aisin and ZF.
At present, in the field of AT transmissions, domestic independent brands have only achieved a breakthrough from scratch, from some to excellent, to specific installation performance and actual car experience, and it is still far from catching up with the joint venture.
At present, the domestic model gearboxes on the market are generally divided into several categories, and foreign well-known manufacturers join hands (or acquisitions); or independently develop dual-clutch transmissions, such as most domestic brands choose to independently develop wet dual-clutch transmissions; or directly purchase transmission products from well-known manufacturers, and for example, Changan directly purchases Aisin transmissions; and then it is equipped with domestic transmissions, such as Dongan or Shengrui transmission products.
This inevitably involves a question, why is the AT gearbox not popularized in domestic cars? A big reason is because of technical barriers, most of the patents are in the hands of well-known manufacturers, domestic independent brands want to bypass these restrictions and catch up with the development of mature AT gearboxes in a short period of time is obviously unrealistic, so more car companies have chosen to take another path, starting from the dual-clutch transmission.
The second is the most critical issue, which are two different things: what is made and what is made well are two different things. Dongan has a 6AT that claims to be fully autonomous, and Shengrui has an off-line 8AT, but from the perspective of actual installed applications and driving experience, there is obviously a gap with the joint venture model, not to mention the benchmark Aisin ZF, even Ford GM also has a gap. The acceptance is not high, car companies do not dare to risk large-scale procurement of mounted equipment, manufacturers have no orders, no market, naturally there is no positive feedback to improve and perfect, and now fall into a closed-loop vicious circle.
AT automatic transmission is too difficult, time and taste the cost is too high, car companies are easy to dare not try, manual transmission is easy, but has become history, did not completely fade out of the stage and no longer belongs to the mainstream category, various factors restricted, dual clutch transmission has become the most appropriate choice for domestic brands at this stage, after all, the ability to purchase brands like Changan is not in the majority. We can't build a high-power engine that can't lose the joint venture, but we can't build a good AT transmission.
