The following year, the "Xinugu Treaty" was signed, and since then, the embassy district of the great powers in Dongjiaomin Lane has been completely reduced to a "country within a country". The great powers could not only set up embassies and consulates, but even build military barracks to garrison troops; Moreover, the treaty stipulates that Chinese are not allowed to reside here.
After the signing of the treaty, the Western powers built a large number of civil engineering projects, from Chongwenmen in the east, to Xikou in the west, to Dongchenggen in the south, and to East Chang'an Avenue in the north, and the entire area became the jurisdiction of the foreign embassy district. When the Beijing Municipal Military Control Commission issued a notice of withdrawal to the US, British, and other embassies, these members of the embassies and consulates representing the Western powers actually planned not to leave, among them, the former US consul general in Peiping, Ko Loeb, wrote a letter and protested, and actually said that the rights they possessed were stipulated in the "Xinugu Treaty." I went, such a brazen remark is really speechless, is it not worth saying this in my heart?
Not only that, he even threatened that if the barracks in Dongjiaomin Lane were requisitioned, the United States would close all consulates and withdraw all diplomats!

In January 1950, the People's Liberation Army officially marched into Dongjiaomin Lane, and the so-called "right to garrison troops" signed by imperialism using unequal treaties was completely abolished.
