Among them, the 57th Army of the Kuomintang Army and the 30th Division of the 30th Army retreated along the Lin (You) Fengxiang (Xiang) all the way to the Fengxiang area of Baoji City.
Although the 57th Army was originally a unit of Zhang Xueliang's Northeast Army, it had been annexed by Hu Zongnan during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and was now a member of the Central Army; Xu Rucheng, the commander of the Army, graduated from the Huangpu Sixth Period, studied in Germany, was deeply trusted by Chiang Kai-shek, and had always been a guest of honor by Hu Zongnan. Therefore, although the 57th Army was repeatedly hit, at this time there were only 3 regiments of more than 6,000 people left, but the whole army was very arrogant, the military discipline was also very poor, all the way to catch Ding La Ling to replenish the troops, but also forced into people's houses, wanton plunder, a little bit of no immediate gun threat, like bandits.

When the commander Xu Rucheng retreated from the Qianxian garrison in the west of Xi'an, he used his jeep to pull his wife and daughter up, and his subordinate generals followed suit, dragging their families and mouths, and the large and small vehicles were piled with luggage and weight, resulting in the slow movement of the troops, which was only forty miles a day. When the troops arrived at the county seat of Yongshou County, the 4th Army of the First Field Army followed, and Xu Rucheng ordered the troops to accelerate their advance, vehicles, luggage, and even ammunition were discarded everywhere, and the troops who had been harassing the people all day were even more tired, and the number of people who were left behind was increasing day by day.
At this time, the 30th Division of the 30th Army, which was born in the Miscellaneous Units of the Northwest Army, was already excluded and discriminated against, and what was even more fatal was that during the Battle of Taiyuan, Huang Qiaosong, commander of the 30th Army, was ordered to lead the 27th Division and the 89th Regiment of the 30th Division to reinforcements, and was discovered by Yan Xishan, the "King of Shanxi", for planning a rebellion in Taiyuan City, and finally Huang and the PLA negotiators were escorted to Nanjing by plane for execution. With such a previous conviction, the situation of the 30th Division in the Kuomintang army can be imagined.
First as a containment team, then as a commando
This time, the 57th Army withdrew westward, and Hu Zongnan specially ordered the 30th Division to take cover, so along the way, Wang Jingxin, the commander of the 30th Division, led the troops to the rear and served as the army's containment team. On the evening of May 21, in order to cooperate with the 4th Army in eliminating this fleeing enemy, the 2nd Division of the 1st Army of the First Field Army rushed to the front and seized the high ground from Yaojiagou to Laojunling in the northeast of Fengxiang, cutting off the retreat route of Xu Rucheng, Wang Jingxin and others. After Xu found that the front was blocked, he could not care about the safety of his wife and daughter, nor did he care about commanding the troops, so he rushed to the garrison of the 30th Division and looked for Wang Jingxin to find a way.
Wang Jingxin also knew that he was the life of cannon fodder, and immediately said: "This division will attack immediately, even if it hits a soldier and a pawn, it vows to go through to the end." Subsequently, the 30th Division attacked in full swing, and the 57th Army took cover in situ, trying to open a gap from the front with the tactic of a central breakthrough, but was met with a head-on attack and more than 1,000 people were captured. Early the next morning, the main forces of the 1st Division and the 4th Army of the 1st Army all arrived at the battlefield and began to pursue and fight fiercely, and destroyed the enemy who had scattered along the way. By 10 a.m., the 57th Army and the 30th Division were completely wiped out, and Wang Jingxin was killed, capturing more than 8,000 enemy soldiers. However, Xu Rucheng escaped by chance.
