Hu Ying, a famous minister of the Southern Song Dynasty, was the nephew of the famous general Zhao Fan, who was intelligent and studious from an early age and read poetry and books. Hu Ying was influenced by his uncle Zhao Fan, and was arrogant and dry, and had quite a martial habit. And he was able to enter the official arena, but also with military merit.
In October of the third year of Emperor Shaoding of the Song Dynasty (1230 AD), the Mongol general Li Quan attacked Yangzhou in the Southern Song Dynasty. Speaking of this Li Quan, he is also a strange person, he was originally a nominal army leader in Shandong, and his wife Yang Miaozhen led the "Red Jacket Army" to rebel against the Jin Army. Later, the power of Li Quan and his wife gradually grew, and they wandered between the three regimes of Jin, Mongolia, and Song, one would defect to the Southern Song Dynasty, and the other would turn to Mongolia, and the Qin Dynasty would be capricious.

Li Quan eventually fell to the side of the most powerful Mongols, and in October of the third year of Emperor Shaoding of Song (1230 AD), he raised an army to invade the Song. Hearing the news of Li Quan's army attacking, the Southern Song Court immediately sent the famous general Zhao Fan to rescue Yangzhou. In order to temper his nephew, Zhao Fan ordered Hu Ying to go with the army to discuss, along the way, Hu Ying gave full play to his wisdom and wisdom, he repeatedly gave advice, assisted Zhao Fan all the way invincible, repelled Li Quan's offensive, and saved half of the Zhao and Song small imperial court.
After Zhao Fan led the Song army, Hu Ying became famous, and Shi Miyuan, a powerful minister who held the political power of the Southern Song Dynasty, wanted to promote Hu Ying as an official, but he categorically refused. Hu Ying's reason for refusing is very simple, he does not want to take shortcuts, he wants to rely on his own ability, take the normal way to enter the career, that is: the imperial examination.
Good people succeed no matter what industry they are in, and that's been the case since ancient times. As an outstanding talent, Hu Ying also played a triumphant song all the way after taking the imperial examination, and finally won the middle jinshi and successfully stepped into the door of the Southern Song Dynasty officialdom.
With excellent business ability, Hu Ying quickly rose to the position of prefect of Pingjiang. During his tenure as prefect of Pingjiang, Hu Ying cracked a case of supernatural powers. At that time, the people of Pingjiang Province rumored that there was a statue of a bodhisattva in the temple, and as long as people bowed down and believed in him, they would have good luck, glory and wealth, and the people were convinced of this.
Hu Ying was a man who did not believe in ghosts and gods, and when he heard this, he was on fire, and he personally came to the temple, sat down next to the bodhisattva, and said to the people who were watching: "I will stay in the temple for seven days and seven nights to see how this bodhisattva manifests, and if he does not appear, everyone will not come to worship him again. ”
Hu Ying did what she said, and sure enough, she stayed in the temple for seven days and seven nights, and all the food and drink lasa were solved in the temple. After seven days and seven nights had passed, the bodhisattva showed no sign of apparition, and the people of Pingjiang were satisfied with Hu Ying.
Although Hu Ying was a person of feudal society, he not only did not believe in ghosts and gods, but also had a materialist spirit, and his thinking could be said to be beyond the times.
Later, Hu Ying was promoted to the position of Liangguang Jingjing's slightly appeased envoy, and cracked another major case, exposing the so-called "big snake monster" scam.
At that time, there was a temple in Chaozhou with a monk in the temple. This monk looked kind and good-looking, but he was a man of wealth and morality. He set up a merit box in front of the Buddha statue in the temple, and pilgrims came to worship every day. The monk also let out a wind noise, claiming that there was a snake god in the temple, and as long as the pilgrims were sincere, they could get the protection of the snake god. After the pilgrims visited the Buddha statue, they naturally threw a lot of money into the merit box, and the monks fished out of pots and bowls, and the small life was not happy.
Unfortunately, happy life is always short, and good days are always interrupted. On this day, a new prefect came from Chaozhou, a promising official, who ordered everyone to work hard to cultivate the fields and weave, and not to indulge in burning incense and worshiping the Buddha, and to do unrealistic fantasies.
The prefect's call played a certain role, and the incense in the monk's temple was greatly reduced, and the monk's income was naturally much worse than before. Coincidentally, the Chaozhou government happened to be in a drought at this time, and the daily red sun was hot, but it always did not rain, the crops withered, and the hearts of the people withered.
The monk immediately let out a wind voice: The reason why we in Chaozhou have a drought is precisely because the prefect does not respect the gods and offends the snake god. If the serpent god does not receive the incense, he will naturally be angry, and when he is angry, he will punish us.
The people were convinced of this, and for a time, the people of Chaozhou boiled over, and the people complained and greeted the eighteen generations of ancestors of the prefect.
The prefect was an unbeliever, and he decided to personally go to the temple to investigate the details of the snake god. On this day, the chaozhou prefect came to the temple, and as soon as he entered the temple gate, a large snake with a thick bowl suddenly crawled in front of him and spat at him in demonstration. The prefect was caught off guard, startled, and fell ill when he returned to the gate. It wasn't long before the prefect died of illness.
Seeing the death of the prefect who did not believe in the snake god, the people of Chaozhou were even more convinced of the snake god, and the incense in the monk's temple flourished again.
After Hu Ying knew about this matter, he was taken aback: even the chaozhou prefect died on this matter, which shows that there must be something strange about this matter, and there must be something strange at this time! Hu Ying decided to go to Chaozhou in person to find out the truth.
After coming to Chaozhou, Hu Ying did not go to the temple, but sat on the top of the public hall and ordered the monks in the temple to go to the temple for trial. After the monk came to the court, his words flickered and his eyes wandered, and Hu Ying looked at the color and determined that the monk was behind the ghost.
"Master, please invite the serpent god to the court, and Lord Ben will talk to him." Hu Ying said.
The monk did not dare to disobey, so he found a few messengers to help, returned to the temple and carried the big snake above the court. But when he saw that this snake's feet were as thick as the mouth of a bowl, it was packed in a large cage, and it was demonstrated to the crowd, and it seemed to be on its toes.
Hu Ying came to the cage and said to the big snake, "Snake God, snake, I limit you to manifest within three days, lord Ben will wait for you in this court for three days, and if you do not appear after three days, you will be condemned to death, and your master will also be guilty." ”
In this way, Hu Ying waited for three days and three nights above the lobby, and the big snake was still on its toes in the cage at first, and after a long time, her spirit gradually withered.
Hu Ying laughed loudly, "Snake God, Snake God, it seems that not only can you not manifest the spirit, but now you can't even manifest the spirit." Come on man, cut this beast off for me! ”
Hu Ying ordered the serpent to be killed and convicted the monks in the temple. In this way, the Chaozhou Great Snake Monster Case was easily solved by Hu Ying.
Hu Ying was a measured person, he killed the big snake, after the monk was punished, he did not demolish the monk's temple, but agreed to the people to continue to worship the Buddha, the people got Hu Ying's education, although they will still come to worship the Buddha, but they will no longer throw money without a brain.
Under the premise of respecting the beliefs of the people, Hu Ying broke the superstitious events in chaozhou and was indeed an excellent parent official.
