The law of cursive writing is so simple!

Ligature writing is the writing of two or more pen shapes or parts that were originally independent of each other in the main font. This is one of the most typical features of cursive writing that distinguishes it from other fonts. Let's focus here on the continuity between pen shapes.

In order to write quickly, cursive often connects the independent pen shape of the main font into a stroke. It is conceivable that the time required to write a long pen shape at one time must be much less than writing several independent short pen shapes separately. Because of this, we suspect that the continuous writing between pen shapes should also be one of the first ways people think of when they first sketched the main font.

The combo between the strokes in cursive can be subdivided into the following situations:

first

Press the normal stroke order of the primary font

Write several pen shapes along the way

As we all know, compared with the ancient script, the modern script has a great feature in writing, that is, it can clearly see the order in which a word is realized. The main font is like this, the mutated font due to the close connection between the pen shapes and the end of the pen shape often has a clear display of the direction of the sharp edge, the order of implementation of this pen shape is more obvious. Therefore, comparing cursive with the main font to which it is attached, we can clearly see whether the cursive double-writing is completed according to the order of the main font.

second

Sometimes for convenience

Write or connect as many pen shapes as possible

Cursive also changes the stroke order of the main font

We found that the writing of whole characters or parts with closed frames such as "tian", "mu" and "four" has a regular pattern in cursive: its outer frame often has to change the stroke order to connect and write, generally the left vertical and lower horizontal are first connected to write.

Obviously, no matter where the box is, as soon as it appears, the stroke order basically has to change. Undoubtedly, this change has increased the speed of writing. We also found that words with a "treasure cap" tend to change their stroke order:

Cursive writing in the change of stroke order, there is a "vertical painting dominates other strokes" law: when a word or part of the main font is composed of a vertical painting running through it with other pen shapes (at least one horizontal stroke), the continuous writing between the cursive pen shapes often changes the stroke order, generally writing the vertical stroke in advance (usually the second stroke), and then writing the rest of the pen shape. For example:

As you can see from the above example, the parallel writing of changing the stroke order in cursive contains a very rich number of cases. Of course, no matter how complicated, the purpose is to find the best route.

third

Change the direction of the line

Mr. Qin Yonglong believes: "The formation of lishu not only enriches the pen shape of Chinese characters, but also forms the law of different pen shapes correspondingly having a fixed trend, which is the basic formula of the 'meter' pen shape from left to right, from top to bottom, from top to right, from top left to bottom right, which greatly facilitates writing. (See "Chinese Character Writing Long Talk")

It is precisely because the pen shape of the lishu and the letter has a fixed trend that conforms to the physiological characteristics of the person holding the pen in the right hand and the physical characteristics of the brush, so through the comparison of cursive and the main font glyph, we can easily find that some pen shapes have changed the direction of the line pen in cursive.

For example, although cursive sometimes superficially changes the direction of the pen shape of the "meter" font of the Lishu and The Letters, this change does not bring inconvenience to the writing, because the changed pen shape is basically a rounded apostrophe, and it is connected to other pen shapes in a clockwise direction. The clockwise stroke is very smooth for the habit of writing with the right hand and the physical properties of the brush.

fourth

Cursive for easy writing

It is also common to change the transition state between pen shapes

For example:

fifth

For the sake of even writing smoothly

Cursive also has the phenomenon of division and reorganization

That is, individual glyphs divide and cut off a pen shape or part in the main font and then recombine the ligature. For example:

Among them, the skimming of "Heaven" is divided and recombined with other pen shapes, "Hui" divides the middle vertical and then recombines with the left vertical, and "I" divides and reorganizes the writing method of the main font and then changes the stroke order.

These three words are all examples of splitting the pen shape, and "辯" is an example of splitting parts. "辯" is originally a left-middle-right structure, including three parts, and its cursive glyph first cuts out the topmost point of the three parts and connects them, and the rest are basically connected in a clockwise direction.

These are just a few cases of consecutive strokes between cursive pen shapes. In general, in either case, the final route, while not necessarily the shortest, must be the smoothest. Moreover, as can be seen from the above examples, several cases of consecutive strokes between pen shapes are often reflected in a cursive glyph at the same time, that is, in order to write smoothly, they often occur at the same time.
