In the northern part of Jiangxi Province, there is a place called Xingzi County, which is now the city of Lushan. It is a county-level city in Jiangxi and is under the administration of Jiujiang City. Its place name comes from the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, when Yang Wu set up the town of Xingzi here during the Yamato period, because there is a "falling star stone" in the south lake of the town, which got the name. It has the Lushan Mountain Scenic Area, adjacent to Poyang Lake, Duchang County to the east, Chaisang District and De'an County to the west, the former Lushan District to the north, which is now Lianxi District, and Yongxiu County to the south. The total area of the city is more than 900 square kilometers, and the population has reached nearly 250,000.
First, why did Xingzi County change its name to Lushan City?

In 2015, the then Jiujiang Municipal Government, after a long period of multi-party research and solicitation of opinions and suggestions from all walks of life, submitted an application to the Jiangxi Provincial Government to set up a city in Lushan. In 2016, with the approval of the state, parts of Jiujiang City were adjusted, Xingzi County was abolished, and the county-level City of Lushan was established. In this way, Lushan City became the second county-level city in Jiangxi Province to be named after a scenic spot.

During the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties, the present place of Lushan City belonged to the administration of Yangzhou at that time. In the Spring and Autumn Period, this place was again under the administration of the State of Chu, and later under the administration of the State of Wu. In the Warring States period, after the destruction of the State of Wu, this place came under the administration of the State of Yue. Until the Qin Dynasty, the county system was implemented, and At this time, Lushan was under the jurisdiction of Jiujiang County at that time.
In the Han Dynasty, Lushan was under the jurisdiction of Chaisang County at that time. During the Three Kingdoms period, it was under the jurisdiction of Eastern Wu. During the Western Jin Dynasty, it was also under the jurisdiction of Xunyang County. In the Sui Dynasty, Xunyang County was abolished, and Jiangzhou and Xunyang Counties were established, and later Jiangzhou was abolished and changed to Jiujiang County. In contemporary times, Jiangzhou was re-established and Xunyang County was established. Until the fifth generation, Xingzi Town was set up in the south of Lushan Mountain, which was under the jurisdiction of Dehua County at that time.
In the Song Dynasty, in 978 AD, that is, the third year of the Taiping Revival, the then Xingzi Town was upgraded to Xingzi County, which was under the jurisdiction of Jiangzhou. In 982, the seventh year of the Taiping Revival, the Southern Kang Army was established, and Xingzi County was its military rule.
During the Yuan Dynasty, in 1277 AD, that is, in the fourteenth year of the Yuan Dynasty, the Southern Kang Army was changed to Nankang Road, which was under the jurisdiction of the then Jianghuai Province. Later, it was under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Xingzhongshu Province. During the Ming Dynasty, in 1376 AD, that is, in the ninth year of Hongwu, the place was renamed Nankang Province. During the Qing Dynasty, Xingzi also came under the jurisdiction of Nankang. During the Republic of China period, the then Nankang Province was abolished, but the establishment of Xingzi County was retained, which was under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Province. Later, until liberation, Xingzi County was successively subordinated to Xunyang Province, Jiangxi Province, the Third Administrative District, the Fifth Administrative District, and the Ninth Administrative District.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Xingzi County came under the jurisdiction of Jiujiang Special District, and it was not until 1983 that Xingzi County began to be under the jurisdiction of Jiujiang City. In 2016, Xingzi County was abolished.
