Mt Hutt Station
Hut hill station
Hutt Hill Station is currently operated by Bruce and Becky Hood with the assistance of Bruce's parents, Keith and Dennise. Hutt Hill Station is a very family-owned farm that produces good quality venison in an environment unique to New Zealand. Bruce and Becky's four children will essentially be the next generation of deer farmers at Hutt Hill Station. The Hood family has been supplying venison to the Mountain River and has spared no effort to ensure that it can provide the deer with as much natural feed and pasture as possible.
Northbank Station
North Shore Station
Adam and SharonWaite manage South Shore Station, a 1,600-acre family-owned farm. There are about 100 small pastures on the farm for grazing and deer to hang out. Deer are grass-fed and provide farm-grown barley in winter. Last year the ranch farmed 5,000 deer for Cervena. North Shore Station is beautifully secluded and has clean drinking water for every small ranch. The fawns are fed fresh and clean grass. There is also a central lane system to transport fawns to another pasture for grazing, eliminating the stress associated with it. The ranch pumps water from the nearby Rakaia River through an irrigation system, ensuring that the animals on the ranch can also eat tender grass during dry seasons.
Whyte Farming
White Agriculture
Canterbury Highlands farmer Donald Whyte has loved deer since childhood. He started out hunting, then helicopter hunting, and then owned one of New Zealand's largest ranches, with 5,000 deer. Together with Whote's son and daughter, the Whyte family supplies 2,000 deer to the Mountain River each year. Deer love the highlands very much, and the doe will give birth to fawns here. The fawns are weaned in March or April and sent to the lowlands, where The Sons of Whyte will raise the fawns enough to be on the market.
Raincliff Station
Rain Cliff Station
Dave Morgan, who moved to Wales, made up his mind to take deer farming wholeheartedly, which is his passion for the industry. Dave and his wife Janet are the owners of Rain Cliff Station and run the ranch with their three children and team. He speaks with a distinctly Welsh accent, likes to "balance" things, and admits to being interested in the antlers business. Dave has a vision to run the ranch in a relaxed, profitable and sustainable way. He said that this value is not driven by business by business but focuses on people and the environment.
Cattle Flat Station
Niuping Station
Ewing grazes cattle at Niuping Station near Wanaka, located in the Matukituki Valley, which was formed by glaciers hundreds of years ago. It has an area of 4,000 hectares and contains 50 small pastures, the largest of which is 200 hectares. Surrounded by beautiful mountains, the altitude is 3,033 meters. The Ewing family has been running the ranch for more than 30 years and has been breeding deer for nearly a decade. Also working here is Ewing's daughter Pip, a fourth-generation worker. Their deer run on advanced pastures and hills that stretch for 5,000 feet. They also grow winter feed on the ranch, mainly a type of radish and kale. They usually feed intermittently. Last year they farmed 4,000 deer for the Mountain River. Their favorite venison dish is very simple because they like the clean taste of venison. Add a little oil and a little sea salt and bake until three minutes cooked.
