Marshal Peng was a proletarian revolutionary, military, politician, and one of the founders and leaders of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and was awarded the rank of marshal at the conferment ceremony in 1955.
He was an outstanding party member with strong organizational leadership ability and military command ability; in the course of nearly half a century of revolutionary struggle, he fought in the south and fought in the north, endured hardships and dangers, and made outstanding contributions to the defense and construction of the socialist motherland.
Such a great marshal suddenly found that his physical condition was worse than a day in the spring of 1973, although it had not been good before, but now it was getting worse and worse. However, at that time, the situation was special, he could not go out for medical treatment, and could only lose weight under the torment of illness.
Fortunately, the news of his illness reached the Prime Minister, who immediately asked for medical parole.
So the task force contacted the hospital urgently, but Fuwai Hospital and the First Division Hospital of the Garrison District were reluctant to admit patients after knowing the identity of the patients. In desperation, the prime minister issued an instruction: immediately transfer to the Wukesong People's Liberation Army 301 Hospital.
Therefore, it was not until April 17, 1973, that the marshal entered the hospital for treatment. After consultation, experts confirmed that he had rectal cancer, which was already advanced.
The prime minister was very angry when he found out, and he asked why the task force had not found out for more than a year. How many times has the marshal seen a doctor this year? But it's too late to ask about that.
On April 22, 1973, the doctor informed the marshal that he was going to undergo surgery, but he immediately refused. He said that the problem was not clear and there was no surgery, and there were unwarranted things pressing on his body, and he was not willing to see the supreme chief without surgery!
Everyone had no choice but to invite the vice president of the hospital, and they continued to persuade the marshal after they arrived, because he was in a critical condition at this time, and the operation might have a glimmer of life. But the marshal still refused, and he put forward three demands: "First, I want to write a material on the issue of the construction of the third line and the strategic defense policy, and it is not clear without writing my brain; second, I want to meet the supreme chief and Zhou Gong; third, I will meet my niece." ”
After everyone listened, they immediately found the marshal's niece Peng Meikui, why was her relationship with the marshal so deep that she had to see her again at this time? It turned out that the marshal who had been a marshal of RongMa's life did not have a single child, but he raised and educated the nephews and nieces left by the two martyrs' brothers, and the closest child was Peng Meikui.
Peng Meikui finally saw her uncle again after many years, looking at the old man on the hospital bed who described the withered tree, she was still half a point ago, she was embarrassed, crying and came to the bedside, the marshal heard her voice, sat up, and also tears in his eyes with excitement, and said excitedly: "Mei Kui, here comes ..."
Peng Meikui helped him to sit down next to him, and after the two of them talked for a while, Peng Meikui asked: "Uncle, your illness can only be operated on, are you afraid of not wanting to do it?" ”
The marshal said, "How can you be afraid of surgery?" But I am really afraid, I am afraid that my problem will never be found again, my words will never be heard again, and I just want to see the supreme leader again. ”
Peng Meikui advised, "Uncle, the problem has dragged on for so long, and it cannot be solved at once." The body is the most important, and then there is the opportunity to meet. The operation was personally approved by Zhou Gong, and your illness could not be delayed. ”
The marshal pondered for a long time, finally agreed, and on the morning of April 26, the operation was performed. After the operation, the marshal's health improved, but it did not last long, the cancer continued to spread, and on November 29, 1974, the marshal died at the age of 76.
It was not until December 1978, when the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China rehabilitated Marshal Peng, that the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries was finally restored to his reputation.
