The War of Resistance broke out and Haimen fell

Haimen, located in the southeast of Jiangsu Province, east of the Yellow Sea, south of the Yangtze River, and Shanghai across the river, known as the "Gateway of the River and the Sea", known as "North Shanghai".

In the early morning of March 21, 1938, the Japanese army invaded Haimen from Nantong, occupied the town of Mao, the county town of Haimen County, before noon, and stationed in Haimen for a long time.

In August 1938, the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China established the Jiangbei Special Administrative Region Committee of the Communist Party of China in accordance with the instructions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. In early November 1940, the Eighth Regiment of the Third Column of the Northern Jiangsu Headquarters of the New Fourth Army, led by regimental commander Wang Cheng and political commissar Peng Deqing, entered the town of Jiangjia in Haimen and met with the standing brigade division led by Mao Heng.

The New Fourth Army was the mainstay of the nation's War of Resistance, and they fought fiercely in the north and south of the great river to resist the ferocious Japanese invading army and to strike hard at the puppet army that played the role of the tiger.

In December 1940, the Kuomintang guerrilla sixth column led by Xu Chengde was entrenched in the fourth sub-district, and when the main force of the third column of the New Fourth Army was marching to Hai'an, it waited for the opportunity to launch an attack on the garrison of the New Fourth Army. The remaining troops of the New Fourth Army rose up to fight back, heroically killed the enemy, and fought fiercely for three days and three nights, winning more with less and repelling the stubborn army. Xu Chengde led the remnants of his army to flee south to Yudong to join the Japanese army and became a puppet army.

That night, underground party members in Yudong Town clearly figured out the strength and equipment of Xu Chengde's troops and reported to the New Fourth Army, Three Columns, and Seven Regiments. After the Seventh Regiment learned of this, it went straight to Yu Dong. On the morning of the 31st, the Seven Regiments launched a general attack on Xu Bu, causing the enemy to lose his armor and flee in a daze. Commander Tao Yong commanded the troops to divide into two routes and rise up in pursuit. By the time they reached the West Gate, more than 80 people had been taken prisoner. At noon, after hearing the news, the Japanese troops stationed at Sijiaba and the Third Factory rushed out in an attempt to encircle and annihilate the Seventh Regiment.

Commander Tao Yong ordered a reinforcement platoon to block the attack, and the rest of the troops continued to pursue Xu Bu. The Japanese army besieged Yudong in three ways, strengthened the platoon of fighters to face the enemy, fought bravely, and held their positions. Until the evening, because of the outnumbered, all 37 people in the platoon were killed.

This battle was the first battle of the New Fourth Army's eastward march into Haimen, dealing a heavy blow to Xu Chengde's troops and boosting the morale of the army and the people to resist Japan.

In the spring of 1941, Xu Chengde, who had been defeated and fled in the Battle of Yudong, was promoted to commander of the Wang Pseudo 32nd Division, and hundreds of people were stationed in Qilin Town. On the morning of April 10, Xu Chengde led his troops from Qilin Town to the east to attack Yuelai Town.

The commander of the fourth sub-district of Central Jiangsu learned of the intelligence and immediately ordered the Seventh Regiment and the Haiqi Guard Regiment to attack Xubu. In the evening, the Seventh Regiment launched an attack on Xu Chengde's troops from the southeast, east, and north, and the commanders and fighters braved the rain of bullets and bullets to bravely kill the enemy. The New Fourth Army in zhenbei advanced all the way to the north bank of the Tongsha River and confronted the enemy across the river. The main force of the New Fourth Army in the southeast of the town climbed onto the roof, set up machine guns, and fiercely strafed the enemy positions. After a day and night of fierce fighting, a large number of puppet troops were annihilated, and the enemy's souls were scattered and shrunk in the stronghold.

On the morning of 11 April, the New Fourth Army launched another offensive to eliminate some of the defending enemy. In the evening, the New Fourth Army launched a general offensive. The dying Xu Chengde organized a death squad and personally went to the trenches in Hedong to supervise the battle, and was killed by the New Fourth Army, eliminating this evil traitorous force.

Ambush battle on the diagonal bridge to eliminate the living forces of the Japanese puppet army

On June 2, 1942, the Seventh Regiment of the New Fourth Army received information from the underground party organization, and the Japanese Kou set out early the next morning to build a road. Late that night, Zhu Chuanbao, chief of staff of the regiment, led the commanders and fighters of the first battalion to quietly enter the ambush position east of the diagonal bridge east of Sanyang Town, and the second and third battalions also entered the position separately.

At 8:00 a.m., more than 30 Japanese troops and more than 130 puppet troops in the Sanyang town stronghold, led by the Japanese squadron leader Shinno, carried a 92nd infantry gun and a group of civilians, and walked east along the road. The arrogant enemy was unsuspecting, the enemy entered the ambush circle, and the machine guns of a battalion and three companies mounted on the roof suddenly opened fire, killing several Japanese troops. The Japanese in the rear pounced on the position with their guns. After the soldiers of the three companies and other devils approached, they suddenly threw grenades, and the Japanese army exploded into flesh and blood, and a large piece fell down horizontally and vertically, and the Japanese army fell down and stubbornly resisted. The warriors shot and dragged the enemy to death.

The Japanese army stubbornly resisted

The Japanese commander Shinno heard the gunshots in front and commanded the 92nd Infantry Artillery to bombard the positions of the three companies. The soldiers of the three companies stopped shooting, and Shinno saw that our army position was not moving, and mistakenly thought that it was just a guerrilla unit harassing the Japanese army, and he commanded the Japanese puppet army to frantically attack the position of the three companies. At this time, the migrant workers who built the road took advantage of the chaos and fled.

The enemy was deceived, all of them entered the encirclement, and the machine guns of our army fired fiercely at the enemy at the same time, and the enemy was beaten to panic and dizzy. The loud charge trumpet sounded, and a battalion of soldiers under the command of battalion commander Guo Zhiwei copied from the three breads, and the warriors engaged the enemy in a white-knife battle. Commander Shinno held a saber in his hand and resisted stubbornly, two soldiers of the New Fourth Army cooperated closely, 2 sharp bayonets stabbed him, Shinno screamed for his life, and the morale of the Japanese puppet army was low and lost. Half an hour of fighting, completely annihilated the enemy who entered the ambush circle.

The ambush battle at the diagonal bridge wiped out more than 160 Japanese puppet troops, captured an infantry cannon and a large number of guns and ammunition, and dealt a heavy blow to the arrogance of the Japanese puppet army. The common people rejoiced and carried condolences to the garrison to comfort the warriors, a large number of young and middle-aged people asked to join the army, and the prestige of the New Fourth Army spread throughout the haimen land.
