According to records, the last person to be executed by Ling Chi was the rogue Kang Baye in the late Qing Dynasty. When he went to shave his head, he was scolded by the hair cutter and another patron. After shaving his head casually, he drew his pistol and shot the two men to death.
At first, Kang Xiaoba was sentenced to be beheaded, but after Empress Dowager Cixi heard about this person's deeds, she became curious and wanted to interrogate Kang Xiaoba herself. Then, after meeting Cixi, Kang Baye actually uttered a wild speech: "If you want to rob, you will rob the emperor, and if you want to rape, you will rape the imperial concubine."
Empress Dowager Cixi, who was a good person, was furious when she heard this, and immediately changed her sentence to Ling Chi's execution, and the punishment was to be divided into two days. On the first day, in order to keep him awake and prolong his suffering, he fed him opium, cut more than a thousand knives and then sent him back to prison, and even drank two large bowls of porridge, and the next day, after dozens of knives, Kang Baye finally couldn't stay up and died of exhaustion.
