Family Letter - Shen Baoyu's story
One ordinary night, an old man sat under a dim lamp, his slightly trembling hands carefully holding a pile of letters, which were the family letters sent to him by his son Shen Baoyu before he died. Whenever the old man missed his son, he would always read the letter from the beginning. When his fingers slowly moved over the lines, the scene of the past seemed to appear in front of him.
In 1935, shen Baoyu, then twelve years old, was a first-year student at Shanghai Middle School, and as the Japanese ambitions of aggression gradually spread, he could not suppress his patriotic enthusiasm, angrily left home and threw himself into the underground work of the New Fourth Army. His parents received a letter from the New Fourth Army to learn his whereabouts.
One day, the Japanese army carried out "encirclement and suppression" and "sweeping" of Changshu, Jiangsu Province, and Shen Baoyu was unfortunately imprisoned. During the year in prison, he was interrogated many times, and always said firmly: "I am the New Fourth Army, and the Chinese youth love China. "Don't say a second word. The enemy did not let him die, but escorted him to the Nanjing River as a coolie, trying to torture him in every way, and the prisoners with him were tortured and died of numerous injuries and illnesses.
"The hardest time is when you wake up in the middle of the night every day, your stomach is too hungry and your lower abdomen is colic..." "Please rest assured, don't worry about me, I am very lenient, because it is only a matter of time before I am free!" And for the cold diet of course, he will be careful..." Reading this, the old man's eyes have long been blurred by tears, he does not know how much suffering his children have suffered, but he knows that it is the firm ideals and beliefs that make the young Shen Baoyu not half retreat.
Being in a cage and having a harsh environment did not affect Shen Baoyu's spirit of struggle. One night, he escaped from prison with other imprisoned comrades and swam across the river. Unfortunately, their actions were discovered by the Japanese, and the hands of those who were captured that night were tied together after being crossed by thick wire, and blood flowed all over the ground. Shen Baoyu luckily escaped to a dead river, he filled the hunger with water weeds and snails, and after hiding for three days and three nights, he met the help of well-wishers and returned to his hometown of Jiaxing, Zhejiang.
The young soldier stayed at home for only three months, and after recovering from a serious illness, he immediately went to the Tonghui Town District of Subeibeimen of the New Fourth Military Region. The situation in the area was dangerous, and the New Fourth Army could clash with the Japanese puppet army at any time, and in a battle in December 1944, he gave his precious life at the age of 21. The old man held in his hand his last family letter, which read, "My parents and brother's physical expectations are extra careful, so as not to worry about me outside."
"The mission is interrupted, the spirit does not die." During the war years, thousands of young people with lofty ideals like Shen Baoyu threw their heads and spilled their blood for the motherland.
