The BBC reported on December 29 that recently, Amazon Echo's smart speaker Alexa suggested that a 10-year-old girl in the United States try a dangerous "challenge".
What Alexa reportedly said to the girl was "Plug the phone charger into a wall outlet, but don't plug it in to the end, and then touch the part of the plug exposed with a one-cent coin." ”
The girl's mother, Kristin Livdahl, wrote on Twitter describing the situation. Allegedly, when the girl said to Alexa, "Give me a challenge," Alexa made the suggestion based on the "results of the internet search." The dangerous event, called Coin Challenge, became popular on TikTok and other social media outlets about a year ago.
Livdahl said she immediately stopped her daughter, who was "smart and didn't do it."
Amazon then issued a statement to the BBC saying the company had fixed the error in case Alexa made suggestions for such activities in the future.
