If a war breaks out between the two sides of the strait, will the United States assist in defending Taiwan? In what ways will it assist Taiwan? "Foresight" magazine released the latest "Survey of People's Sentiments" today (28), in which on cross-strait and military issues, 33.7 percent of the people in Taiwan believe that the United States will "sell weapons to Taiwan," 19.8 percent think they will "send warships to cruise," 13.0 percent think they will "verbally or in writing condemn the mainland," and 10.2 percent believe they will "fight together in Taiwan."

According to further analysis, if divided by political party tendencies, 45.2 percent of Pan-Blue believe that they will "sell weapons to Taiwan," 20.4 percent believe they will "verbally or writtenly condemn the mainland," Pan-Green believes that the United States will "send warships to cruise," and 18.6 percent believe that they will "fight together in Taiwan."

If war breaks out one day between the two sides of the strait, 52.1 percent of the people believe that the Taiwan authorities are not ready for war, and 51.3 percent of the people say they are unwilling to go to war themselves or let their families go to war! If the age analysis is detailed, up to 70.2% of people aged 20 to 29 are reluctant to go to the battlefield; however, as many as 47.9% of people aged 30 to 39 are willing to go to the battlefield, which is the highest range in the whole age group.

But this data has aroused questions from netizens on the island. Many netizens said that they were "super optimistic" and "even 50% of them are willing?" He also said that "if you are willing, you will deduct only one mouth."

Ironically, on the same day, Taiwan's foreign affairs department thanked the United States for its "rock-solid" defense commitment to Taiwan.

It is worth observing that the poll also asks the public "what is the relationship with Chinese mainland?" "41% of the public consider each other to be competitors, followed by 25.2% of the public who believe they are business partners. In the United States, a whopping 60.2% believe that each other is a business partner, and then it is relatives and friends (16.4%).

With regard to the repeated intervention of the United States in the Taiwan Strait, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin once said that the one-China principle is the political foundation of Sino-US relations, and on the Taiwan issue, the US side should scrupulously abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiques. We resolutely oppose any form of official exchanges and military contacts between the US side and the Taiwan region, and oppose US interference in China's internal affairs.
