Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian presided over a regular press conference of the Foreign Ministry on 28 July. Global Times-Global Network reporter asked, according to reports, the US military in Okinawa Hansen camp outbreak of new crown pneumonia cluster infection incident, more than 200 US personnel confirmed, as of the 25th has caused 10 cases of Okinawa local Aomi Kerong strain-related cases. Even so, a large number of U.S. military personnel still enter and leave the bustling streets and entertainment venues without masks. What does the spokesperson think about this?

Zhao Lijian said: I have noted relevant reports that the unrestrained and arbitrary activities of US personnel stationed in Okinawa, Japan, have seriously threatened the health of the local people and have aroused great anger and strong dissatisfaction in Japan. At present, the new crown pneumonia epidemic is still raging around the world, and epidemic prevention and control is an urgent task facing all countries. The U.S. overseas military bases are all over the world, with the largest number of overseas troops, and they have the responsibility and obligation to manage their own people, keep an eye on their own doors, and respect and abide by local epidemic prevention regulations.

Zhao Lijian said: Regrettably, we have seen the US garrison operate in violation of the law again and again and to engage in great privileges. Let me give you an example, last year, the US military in Japan had a scandal in which confirmed cases deliberately concealed their itinerary to evade epidemic prevention and control. In September this year, the US side also exempted all soldiers from the obligation to screen for the new crown virus before going to Japan on the grounds of "completing vaccination". In addition to the US troops stationed in Japan, the US troops in South Korea have also been exposed to harass tourists in violation of epidemic prevention regulations at scenic spots. If similar incidents continue to occur, it is not known how much resistance will be added to the local epidemic prevention and control workers, and how much burden will be added to the global protests. If the US military cannot even do such a minimum thing as ensuring epidemic prevention and security, or even become a hidden danger and risk of the epidemic, it is equivalent to disregarding the safety of the people in the host country, and people have to question how much credibility the US security commitment has.
