Pengze, Jiangxi, China News Network, December 28 (Yuan Xin, reporter Wang Haoyang) "This is my third inspection today. Wu Chengnian, an ecological steward of the Yangtze River Basin wearing a new uniform, stood at the bow of the ship and carefully observed the situation on the Pengze section of the Yangtze River in the cold wind.

For Wu Chengnian, who was nearly a flower armour, the Yangtze River was all too familiar to him. Since he was a child, he has been accompanied by the Yangtze River, and likes to sit on the riverside every day, listening to the rushing of the river and watching thousands of sails pass through.

When he grew up, Wu became a fisherman like his father and "begged for a living" on the Yangtze River. A flat leaf boat, shuttled through the wind and waves for more than 30 years.

"In the past, fishing in the Yangtze River was to rely on the Yangtze River to eat, and although the money was more and more made at that time, the fish were getting less and less, and the fish caught was getting smaller and smaller." Wu Chengnian also worried, "If this continues, future generations may not see fish." ”

From 00:00 on January 1, 2021, the main stream of the Yangtze River, important tributaries, large Tongjiang lakes and the Yangtze River Estuary Fish ban management area officially launched a ten-year fishing ban. Wu "washed his feet and went ashore" and "transformed" into an ecological steward in the Yangtze River Basin.

The Yangtze River shoreline of Furongdun Town, Pengze County, has a total length of 12 kilometers, and it is also one of the most beautiful shoreline demonstration sections of the Yangtze River in Pengze County. Here, Wu Chengnian and his teammates and a group of 6 people formed a professional management and protection team, from "relying on the river to eat the river" to "guarding the river and protecting the river", in one year, Wu Chengnian not only changed his identity, but also underwent a fundamental change in thinking.

For these former fishermen, the lessons learned in the wind and waves can come in handy. Wu Chengnian said, "Which places have more fish, which places are good to put down the rod, which places are good to get off the net, which plastic foam floating on the water is a fishing net buoy, I can recognize it at a glance." ”

"Some fishermen were still emotional about the ban at first." Wu adult memories. Later, Pengze County implemented the "1131" plan for retired fishermen to transfer production and employment, carried out relevant employment skills and entrepreneurship training services in various forms and wide coverage, and placed 181 retired fishermen who needed to be employed, all of which realized "seamless docking" from the water to the shore.

2021 is the first year of the "ten-year ban on fishing" on the Yangtze River. In Wu Chengnian's view, the phenomenon of illegal fishing in the Yangtze River has been effectively curbed, and the social atmosphere of "no fishing on the water, no sale in the market, no restaurants, and no food for the masses" has initially emerged.

"I can't do without the Yangtze River all my life, and now I can also return the skills I learned on the Yangtze River to the Yangtze River." Wu Chengnian believes that the new profession of ecological steward in the Yangtze River Basin is of great significance to him, and his life is also guaranteed. "After going ashore, the government gave us subsidies, helped us participate in agricultural insurance, and also arranged us to work in the management and protection team, with a monthly salary of more than 2,000 yuan, we are very satisfied."

Pengze County has a total of 257 retired fishermen, starting from January 2020, Pengze County has carried out the work of "washing their feet and going ashore" for these retired fishermen, in addition to giving certain economic subsidies to the fishermen, it has also invested nearly 100,000 yuan in special funds to organize retired fishermen to carry out job transfer skills training, and guide them to participate in public welfare posts or enter the park enterprises for employment and independent entrepreneurship.

Although there are "eyes" of ecological stewards in the Yangtze River Basin, there are still deficiencies in the protection of the Yangtze River. Jiangxi Pengze County and Anhui Susong County are interdependent and connected by waters, and there are more border waters in the Yangtze River Basin, which are risk points and hidden danger points of the ban on fishing, as well as the difficulties and weak points in cracking down on illegal fishing, and they are also the focus and focus of all aspects of society. Once the border waters are not properly controlled, it is very likely to become a high incidence of illegal fishing, which will inevitably affect the overall situation of the ban on fishing in the Yangtze River Basin.

"This year, we signed the Ganwan -- Gansu Provincial Public Security Bureau with the Public Security Bureau of Susong County, Anhui Province, and effectively achieved the trinity of 'aerial vehicle patrol in the sky, patrol of the steward on the ground, and joint patrol of the water surface'." Mei Yusheng of the Pengze County Public Security Bureau's Water Public Security Bureau said. The trinity mechanism promotes information exchange, resource sharing, and close coordination, realizes joint prevention and control, fully implements risk prevention and control and emergency response, and effectively maintains the security and stability of the Yangtze River waters.

Since the beginning of this year, the porpoise, a national key protected animal, has frequently appeared in the Pengze section of the Yangtze River Basin, and it is like a long-lost "relative" who has returned to us. This is a breakthrough in major scientific problems such as the stable recovery of the finless porpoise population and the improvement of habitat ecology, and it is also a sign of the continuous improvement of the health of the entire Yangtze River water ecosystem.

"Since the ban on fishing in the Yangtze River, we have more effectively protected the ecology of the Yangtze River and cracked down on illegal fishing, and achieved obvious results." According to data provided by the local Finless Porpoise Conservation Center, the number of finless porpoises found is about 48. Mei Yusheng said.

Ten years of fishing ban, only for tomorrow Jiangmei fish fat. Ten years, the protection of the ecology is endless. Looking forward to the expiration of the ten-year covenant, we will once again "reunite" with the Yangtze River where "the porpoise blows the waves, and the sand birds get the fish to idle". (End)
