In the seven years since his entry, he has aimed at various "difficult and complicated diseases" of the train braking system, solved the hard bone problems such as wiper maintenance and wind pressure pipe detection, and led the completion of more than 20 technical research projects, which has saved more than 2.3 million yuan in costs for enterprises.

This change stems from Huang Yi's research 7 years ago. Since 2014, train wipers have been listed as overhaul projects within the section. During the maintenance, two employees outside the car need to climb up the ladder to check the shaft, and the other three need to drill into the space of less than 0.5 cubic meters to replace the wind pressure pipe, and the slightest carelessness will damage the wiper.

Staying in a small space is two or three hours, and in the summer, the temperature inside is more than 40 degrees Celsius. The causes of failures are varied, resulting in slow service.

At that time, Huang Yi, who was the deputy foreman of the team, was anxious in his eyes, and he looked up the information, figured out the structure of the wiper parts, and consulted the manufacturer, and finally figured out all the "Dao Dao" inside.

Back to the team, he gathered other employees to draw pictures on the spot to explain the working mechanism and maintenance process of the wiper. The improvement of the pneumatic wiper maintenance method has shortened the maintenance man-hours of a single locomotive wiper from 144 hours to 48 hours, which can save more than 1.2 million yuan in maintenance costs every year.

Up to now, Huang Yi has brought out an 11-person wiper maintenance team, which can skillfully handle various wiper failures.

Huang Yi noticed during the overhaul that the signal frequency output by the wind pressure pipeline in the sensor of each functional module is the same. He wondered: Can we collect all kinds of wind pressure data externally by testing wind pressure fluctuations, and detect the fault points of wind pipelines and functions by collecting dynamic wind pressure fluctuations?

He bought circuit boards, second-hand tablet computers, detection lines, etc. from the Internet, downloaded the data processing software, and made a wind pressure fluctuation detector. By inserting the detection line probe into the brake module detection interface, you can judge whether there is a hidden danger of failure in the pipeline and function module through the change data of the wind pressure fluctuation like a doctor's auscultation.

Since the employees used the wind pressure fluctuation detector, the accuracy of troubleshooting has been improved, and the detection time of a single module has been compressed from the original 2 hours to 30 minutes. "It's a great feeling!" Employee Zhao Wei said.

It is reported that it now takes only 30 minutes at most to accurately troubleshoot the fault points of the wind pressure pipe and valves. At the same time, the recorded data can be used as a maintenance record voucher, convenient to carry around for after-sales service, etc.

Not only that, Huang Yi also developed a Z-type special wrench for the brake cylinder pipeline connected to the bogie and the body, and the EBV module equipment for electronic brake valves, which greatly improved production efficiency. Employees therefore praised him as a "brake leader".

In August 2021, Huang Yi won the first place in the brake fitter skills competition in the sixth national railway industry vocational skills competition, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security issued a commendation decision and awarded Huang Yi the title of "National Technical Expert".
