He loved to read since childhood, and was particularly fond of poetry, and his mother hired Xia Chengtao, a "generation of words", to teach him a lesson. Mu Xin showed Xia Chengtao his own poetry manuscript, and Xia Chengtao read it, surprised that Mu Xin had such a high poetry foundation at such a young age, so he praised him: "If this collection is mixed into the Tang and Song poems, it is difficult to distinguish."
Mu Xin listened and silently burned the poetry collection. The mother was surprised and puzzled, and Mu Xin said: "I write poetry to write new ideas, and the teacher said that my poetry is no different from the Tang and Song dynasties, indicating that I am still just imitating, rather than copying imitation, it is better to burn it." ”

The family hoped that Mu Xin would engage in business and politics, and also arranged a door-to-door marriage for him, Mu Xin resolutely ran away in order to resist the forced marriage of his family, and first studied oil painting with Mr. Liu Haisu at Shanghai Meizhuan. Later, he transferred to the National Art College of Hangzhou and studied Chinese and Western paintings with Mr. Lin Fengmian.
In 1947, Mu Xin took to the streets with progressive students to distribute anti-war leaflets. His friend was somewhat puzzled by his choice, and he smiled and said, "Poland is a country, you can't let Chopin carry the piano to the front line, can you?" ”
At the age of 22, Mu Xin disregarded his weak physique and joined the People's Liberation Army without hesitation. But Mu Xin has suffered from tuberculosis since he was a child, and he often coughs up blood at work, and the leader thinks that he is not suitable for being a soldier, so he retired from the army early.
After retiring from the army, Mu Xin was hired as an art teacher by Hangzhou No. 1 High School, with a good salary, but Mu Xin did not feel happy, and what he needed was a "miserable, lonely, monotonous life". Therefore, he resigned and went to Moganshan again, which was sparsely populated, and he was able to read, write, paint, listen to music, and understand a different kind of secluded music.
After that, Mu Xin's family road gradually declined, and he was forced to continue to teach and earn an income due to his livelihood. Later, he transferred to the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Factory as a designer, accompanied by art, even if the life is poor, it is enough to comfort.
Soon, a long decade came, and the tribulations also befell Mu Xin. Live in bomb shelters, stay in dirty sewage, eat damp and moldy food, meals crawling with flies... Even so, he still did not consume his enthusiasm and yearning for art, and even the prison seat sat out with a serious style and exquisite atmosphere.
No matter how difficult and difficult the environment is, it cannot erase the "spirit" of the wooden heart. He drew the keys on the paper to play Beethoven's music; secretly cut the paper on which the examination was written, and wrote a manuscript of six hundred and fifty thousand words with these corners and corners. At the age of 56, he walked alone to New York, carrying only $40 in his arms. Having just arrived in a foreign country, Mu Xin makes a living by repairing antiques to others. The lonely and miserable life did not make Mu Xin feel lonely, because he had a world in his heart, where he could listen to Mozart, paint, talk about literature, and write poetry.
Even if he sometimes ate the last meal and did not eat the next meal, Mu Xin still worked hard and did not put down the painting all the way. As time went on, his writings were published in Taiwan, his paintings were put on Display at Harvard University, and his fame rose.
At the end of 1988, Chen Danqing organized many mainland students to worship Mu Xin as a teacher and listened to him teach the "History of World Literature", that is, the "Literary Memoirs" that was later published. Without textbooks, Mu Xin still travels by the wayside, taking students through the world of literature with his memories.
