The Qing Dynasty had a bitter cold place, and many prisoners were exiled here, which is said to be more terrifying than Huangquan Road...
Today we have been born in a highly civilized society, and human rights are greatly respected. But compared to us, the ancients were not so lucky. In the feudal ancient Chinese society, there were many heinous tortures, not only from the physical destruction of prisoners, but also as punishments that made life worse than death. For example, during the Qing Dynasty, the emperor would often send some prisoners who had made a big mistake but did not die to Ninggu Pagoda and could not come back for eternity, so what happened to the legendary Ninggu Pagoda? Why were the prisoners sent here?

In fact, Ninggu Pagoda is not a tower, it is just a place name, Ninggu Pagoda in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, northeast of China, during the Qing Dynasty because of the difference in Manchu language and Chinese, so Ninggu Pagoda got its name. According to historical records, a total of six brothers occupied the area, and in the Manchu language, "six" is called "Ninggu" and "one" is called "tower", so Ninguta got its name. Ninggu Pagoda was a very remote place in the Qing Dynasty, frozen in the land for miles of miles, and the conditions were harsh, so it was very suitable for the imperial court to exile criminals. In such an environment, the prisoners would be tortured and wronged to achieve the purpose of accepting punishment from the imperial court.
In the history of our country, there are many records about Ningguta, such as Yu Qiuyu, who is one of the most famous writers in modern China. He wrote a book, Land of the Exiles, in which he detailed many anecdotes about Ninguta. For example, the criminals were sent to the penal colony and became slaves, and then these poor slaves were divided into masters, including many young and beautiful female prisoners, and the master saw these good-looking female prisoners who were even more casually spoiled, and what was even more infuriating was that some prisoners were exiled by husband and wife, and the master killed all their husbands in advance in order to ruin these female prisoners, and so on, and so on, which shows the cruelty of Ninguta!
Everyone knows the truth of killing people, but in Ninguta these are all empty words, prisoners are like tools, sent by their masters at will, for them may not know what human rights are until death. The prisoners in Ninguta did not have special houses to live in, so the prisoners had to dig cellars everywhere and make shacks to live in, and the conditions were simple, so that every winter many prisoners would die in the cold weather. Prisoners who have not been frozen to death also have to carry out heavy work such as burning lime, digging carbon, etc., and they cannot get a little time to rest, and the annual cold in the northeast will kill countless prisoners, which is really impressive. A scholar once said, "People say that huangquan road, if you go to Ninggu Pagoda, there will be ten yellow springs and you will not be afraid!"
So what mistake would a prisoner be sent to such a terrible hell on earth? It is not difficult to find that most of the people imprisoned here are literary people who have ideas about the throne or touch the prison of words. As we all know, in the middle of the Qing Dynasty, the literal prison was the most terrible torture, and it was the culprit to be exterminated by the Nine Tribes. Even the emperor was benevolent, loving, and gracious, and even his relatives could not avoid being exiled to the bitter cold. For a while, the number of prisoners in Ninguta was growing day by day, shocking everyone!
But by the late Qing Dynasty, Ninguta had become increasingly abandoned, so many people paid for their relatives in Ninguta to redeem themselves, and these people formed their own families and lived a normal life, which was undoubtedly the luckiest part compared to many prisoners.
Today's Ninggu Pagoda has become a tourist attraction, located in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, interested friends can go to visit it
