Samsung produces automotive system processors for Tesla using 7nm process technology

Foreign media pointed out that Samsung was selected by Tesla to become the computer chip manufacturer of their advanced driver assistance system FSD, and the news pointed out that Tesla originally planned to cooperate with TSMC to produce in-vehicle computers, but due to the high cost, it chose Samsung as the second choice. It is reported that Samsung's plant in Hwaseong, South Korea, will be responsible for the production of Tesla's HW4.0 chip.

HW4.0 autonomous driving chip is tesla and Samsung foundry department, after nearly a year of collaborative design and model development results, after a variety of considerations, finally handed over to Samsung responsible for the production of 7nm process. Some refer to the use of the more advanced 5nm process, is to consider that both mass production and performance stability is not as good as the 7nm process, in order to ensure a higher yield rate, as well as the stability after installation in the car, so the decision to choose the 7nm process.

South Korean media pointed out that Samsung will also supply 5 chips to Tesla at the same time, of which 256GB PCIe Gen3 NVMe SSD, 2GB GDDR6 DRAM and 2GB DDR4 DRAM will be applied to audio and video systems, while 2GB GDDR6 DRAM and 128GB UFS storage will be used for autonomous driving systems, the above videos are specially designed for electric vehicles and autonomous driving, with faster response speed and image processing performance.
