Snooker丨 2022 European Masters venue changed, Milton Keynes once again saved the field

The venue for the BetVictor European Masters, which will take place in February 2022, will be changed from Fürth in Germany to Milton Keynes in the UK.

Due to the resurgence of covid-19 in Bavaria, Germany, and the tightening of restrictions on the hosting of local sporting events, WST decided to relocate the European Masters, which was scheduled to be held in Fürth, Germany, to the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, England.

As the venue changes, the competition time will also be slightly adjusted. The European Masters main tournament was originally scheduled to start on February 22, but now starts on February 21 a day earlier, and the final is still on February 27. Fans will be allowed to enter the tournament and ticket booking details will be announced in the near future.

The European Masters total £407,000 and includes a host of superstars such as Ronnie O'Sullivan, Judd Trump, Neil Robertson, John Higgins, Sean Murphy, Karen Wilson and defending champion Mark Selby.

The tournament is broadcast by Eurosport and a range of other broadcasters and global online platforms, while the European Masters are also part of an eight-event BetVictor series, with the players who win the most prize money in the series receiving an additional £150,000.

WST Chairman Steve Dawson said: "We are looking forward to going to Germany for the tournament, and the local fans have a lot of enthusiasm for snooker. For the first time, Stadthalle in Fürth was the venue for the event, and the conditions for hosting the tournament were excellent. Unfortunately, next year's European Masters will not be held in Fürth as scheduled. ”

"Milton Keynes is a great alternative and we've hosted a number of events at Marshall Arena over the last two years. This season's British Open was also successfully held in Milton Keynes, and the atmosphere of the live event was full and the audience was particularly enthusiastic. ”

"In the face of uncertainty about the COVID-19 pandemic everywhere, we will continue to work within the rules set in the UK and overseas venues and find the best solutions to ensure the good momentum of the Tour. While keeping players playing, it also allows our fans to watch snooker live or on TV. ”

There are no plans to adjust the 2022 German Masters, to be held in Tempodrom, Berlin, from 26 to 30 January.
