Musk: Having sold 10% of Tesla stock, "Meta universe" is a bit like marketing rhetoric

On December 21, local time, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in an interview with the American satirical website Babylon Bee that he has achieved his goal of selling 10% of his Tesla stock.

Musk said the sell-off of stocks is all about paying taxes, "and I can't pay taxes unless I sell some shares." I thought, either I'll just sell a 10%? Then I asked on Twitter and everyone agreed. ”

He added, "I've sold enough stock to get 10 percent, plus the things that exercise options, and I'm trying to be very blunt." No need to guess, it's literal. ”

He also said he sold "incremental stock" to reach his 10 percent target.

Asked if voting on Twitter would really affect the decision, Musk said, "I have some Tesla options that are expiring next year and I need to exercise them anyway." ”

On November 6, local time, Musk launched a vote on Twitter, asking whether netizens supported selling 10% of Tesla stock in their hands, and finally nearly 58% of people approved of selling, and then Musk began to sell his Tesla stock.

According to SEC documents, on December 21, Musk sold another 583,600 shares of Tesla stock. So far, according to the data disclosed in regulatory documents, the total number of shares he has sold has reached 13.5 million. According to Reuters, the shares account for about 80 percent of the shares he plans to sell.

Since the day before Musk announced he was going to sell 10 percent of Tesla stock, Tesla shares have fallen about 23.24 percent.

Reuters said in the article that of the 13.5 million shares sold by Musk, 8.06 million shares were used to pay taxes related to the exercise of options.

Referring to musk's $11 billion income tax mentioned on Twitter a few days ago, he said that his income and taxes are transparent, there is no offshore account and other tax avoidance methods, nor salary and dividends, nothing is unseemly.

He also again slammed California's excessive tax revenue in the interview. It also responded to a recent dispute with U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren on Twitter, "She picked it up first, and she said I didn't get it for nothing, and I was a liar who didn't pay taxes." In fact, I paid the most taxes this year than any individual in history, and she didn't have to pay taxes. Her salary is paid exactly by taxpayers like me. If a person had died of irony, she would have died a long time ago. ”

In an interview with Babylon Bee, Musk was also asked about Mark Zuckerberg's Metavalse. Asked if the metaverse is dangerous or hopeful for humanity, Musk jokes that the world may now be in the metaverse.

Still, he seems skeptical about the concept of a metacosm, "Although people always talk to me, I'm not sure I believe in this stuff." Sure, you can have a TV set on your nose, but that doesn't mean you're in the metaverse. ”

He said, "When I was young, I was always taught not to sit so close to the TV, it would be bad eyes." But now, it's going to put the TV here (on the nose). ”

"I think we're still early to disappear into the metaverse, which sounds a bit like marketing rhetoric." Musk said.

As of press time, Tesla (TSLA) U.S. stocks were up 3.1 percent at $968.
