Chinese lunar rover finds "mysterious lodge" on the far side of the moon

"On the afternoon of October 29, Yutu-2 entered the 36th month of exploration, during which the ground driver carefully operated 'Rabbit II' to carry out the first look-up look around after the moon fell, and found that there was an impact crater and an abrupt cube not far away. The driver described the cube as a 'mysterious hut'. ”

On December 8, the "Our Space" public account of the China National Space Administration released such news, which attracted the attention of space enthusiasts around the world.

The North American youth culture platform VICE reported that when the "mysterious hut" was discovered, Yutu-2 was passing through von Carmen Crater on the far side of the moon (that is, the side of the moon with its back to Earth). The lunar rover took an image of the mysterious cube from about 80 meters away. The distance is too far for astronomers to get a clear picture of what this object really is. Yutu-2 plans to tour the region over the next two to three lunar days (about two to three Earth months) to observe it more closely. "Our Space" points out that the main obstacles to this part of the Moon are craters and slopes.

According to Our Space, there is no exact word on what the object is; it could just be a boulder that has been exposed to the lunar surface after being hit by a meteor. "Our Space" points out that there is an impact crater next to this cube.

"It may be a small container for making nucleic acid", "The ruins of Guanghan Palace", "Wu Gang cut down the remaining tree stumps"... In the Weibo comment section of "Our Space," netizens are making imaginative guesses. Vice said that on Twitter, netizens are also "brain-opening", joking that the "mysterious cabin" may be McDonald's or Starbucks, or it may be a bus shelter, where you can temporarily avoid the extreme temperature difference on the moon. Even "Our Space" made a joke that the cube might be "home built after aliens forced landing."

Vice said that Yutu-2 is the first probe for humans to land on the far side of the moon in the 2019 Chang'e-4 mission, which is China's fourth lunar exploration mission. Compared to the rest of the moon, human knowledge of the hemisphere is rather limited, so every discovery of Yutu-2 is groundbreaking.
