I have been writing about my hometown, what does my hometown mean to Liu Zhenyun?

The film crew of "The Hometown of Literature" followed Liu Zhenyun back to his hometown - Yanjin County, Xinxiang City, Henan Province, in the small courtyard of his childhood, Liu Zhenyun fondly recalled the unforgettable past between him and his grandmother, telling the wisdom of her life.

In his childhood, Liu Zhenyun's most impressive text was called "I Want to Read", which wrote about a poor child's yearning for knowledge and the difficulty of reading. Liu Zhenyun studied when he was a child, and his grandmother sold the only hairpin on his head and sent him to the school. Liu Zhenyun remembered that the school was originally a cow house in the village, with several holes in the wall; climbing out of the hole between classes, he went to the wheatgrass pile; his teacher's name was Meng Qingrui, old and kind.

Liu Zhenyun still remembers the first time he published a book at the age of 5, he smelled the fragrance of ink; when he came home from school, he put it under his grandmother's nose for her to smell. "From then until now, there have been no books that smell so fragrant. At that time, the books were so fragrant. ”

Liu Zhenyun, who started from Henan Courtyard, has been to many places since he grew up, in Times Square in New York, in Moscow, in New Delhi, in Abu Dhabi, Liu Zhenyun appreciates different cultural backgrounds, and one strange new world after another makes his thinking broader.

"I'm walking near The Statue of Liberty in the United States now, and I feel the same way I'm walking on my hometown. The world is big, no matter where you go, human nature is the same. ”

Liu Zhenyun feels that the biggest influence of his hometown on people is language, followed by the way people behave in the world. "I was born here, and I have spoken Henan since I was a child, and I still speak it."

Liu Zhenyun, along with Mo Yan, Jia Pingwa and Yan Lianke, has been called the "Four Heavenly Kings" of contemporary Chinese novelists.

The film "1942", based on the novel "Wen Gu 1942", is the story of the great famine in Liu Zhenyun's hometown in 1942, when many people starved to death. Liu Zhenyun later asked his grandmother, "Tell me about 1942, right?" The grandmother said, "What year was 1942?" Liu Zhenyun said, "It was the year when people starved to death." ”

Grandma said, "There are too many years when people starve to death." What year, exactly, you said? ”

"Wen Gu 1942" tells a story about hunger. In 1942, henan suffered a severe drought, affecting 30 million people. Regarding hunger, there are memories of "my grandmother" and "my peanut uncle", and there are also the inspections of American journalist Bai Xiude, which together record a disaster that a nation should never forget.

The novel "One Day and Three Autumns" quotes folklore to describe the paintings painted by the sixth uncle in "my" memory with imaginary stories, and explores the nature of humor in the Yanjin people.

After tasting the bitterness of life, the father and son realized the truth of life at different times and places: an important moment, in life, is like a day and three autumns, but this moment will never come again.

Liu Zhenyun writes about human nature, land and destiny in reality and imagination. It's both humorous and ironic; it's both magical and realistic.

In August 1958, Mao Zedong went to Xinxiang under the scorching sun to check on the growth of wheat and cotton, and his reddened face was constantly smiling. Standing in an endless wheat field wearing a straw hat, Mao Zedong uttered a phrase that would influence China for more than two decades: "The name of the people's commune is good."

At the turn of spring and summer three months ago, Yanjin County had not yet been able to wait for the abundant rains in the summer, and drought could occur at any time. Liu Zhenyun was born in this dry May. Liu Zhenyun hoped that the drought would not happen again, prayed that the wind and rain in his hometown would be smooth, and specially named his daughter "Yulin".

Liu Zhenyun's dream came true.

Today's Yanjin County, Xinxiang City, Henan Province, with abundant agricultural resources, will be selected into the list of national agricultural product quality and safety counties in 2021.

Yanjin is the hometown of "China's first wheat", and has created seven "national firsts" in one fell swoop (the first registered raw grain trademark in the country, the first ship to export edible wheat, the first to establish a wheat intermediary service organization, the first to formulate local production standards, the first to realize the industrialization of bulk crops, the first to realize wheat futures operations, and the first winter wheat yield in the country).

Liu Zhenyun,"Childhood Reading" (excerpt)

When I think of reading, it reminds people of their childhood. Because people's first contact with books is mostly in childhood.

The book arrives, followed by a book cover. My grandmother was illiterate and regarded reading as particularly sacred and difficult. She took the book and looked at it with her eyes: "I can't learn to kill me." "I heard that I wanted to wrap the book cover and take out her most precious stack of green flower plaid oil paper from the bottom of the box—this is what the countrymen use to paste the bottom of the box when they marry their daughters."

When it came to my schooling, my parents were not very responsible. At that time, my father was a clerk in the county town, and my mother was sorting out the mess in the scrap factory; they said that life in the family was tense, and they went to school at a young age. They didn't know how rare this opportunity to go to school was: how many years there was no school in the village, and in 1963, there was a teacher Meng Qingrui, a naughty boy in the village, some teenagers, and some like me who were five or six years old, all mixed under Teacher Meng's door. Miss this opportunity, when and when will we be able to go back to school? Moreover, everyone else went to school, leaving me alone and wandering away from everyone, which also made people feel lonely and uneasy. I heard the news and came home naked from the field, crying to my grandmother. Although my grandmother was illiterate, she understood the righteousness, took the hairpin from her head, sold it for five dollars in the town, sent me to the school hand in hand, smelled my books, and wrapped the book covers for me.

Smelled the book, wrapped the book cover, and then began to learn the contents of the book. It is nothing more than "big, small, more, less, up, down, left, right" these words that are both simple and difficult to understand their profound meaning for a lifetime. In order to learn these complex and simple text skins, I have repeatedly suffered under the oil lamp. Once crying and going to consult a cousin, he refused. The cousin's father, when he went to private school, was extremely dashing, and cut down all the difficult words in the book: "Where are these short words!" "It was my cousin's turn, but he was so stingy with words. When I returned home, my grandmother advised me: "After a day of study, my brain is confused, or I will sleep first, and tomorrow when I spin flowers on friday, I will shout you up." "The five more chickens are the beginning of my grandmother's daily work when she gets up. The next morning my grandmother called me up, and in the "buzzing" of the spinning wheel, I suddenly understood the words in the book: "Grandma, I will." My grandmother shook the spinning wheel with a smile on her face.

When the words were almost recognized in appearance, my parents came and said that they would take me to the city in order to study better. This made me angry. I grew up with my grandmother, and now I want to say goodbye to my grandmother in order to study. On the one hand, I felt the failure of my own reading, and the world was weaving conspiracies for me; on the other hand, I began to reject books. I did well in the village, but when I got to the city, I fell by the wayside. Teachers and parents were very disappointed in me. Until the Mid-Autumn Festival of this year, my grandmother took my brother to the county town to see me, my mother nagged me to learn how to be bad, and my grandmother took my hand and said nothing. Then I saw my grandmother's gray hair with a straw in it, and I remembered the hairpin she had sold for school.
