All the data on physical anxiety and pride is here.

Recently, body anxiety has been on the hot search over and over again. Everyone wants to be beautiful with one click like PS, but how thin is it to be thin, and how beautiful is to be beautiful? Speaking of which, we have to mention the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, a grand event with twists and turns, which brings us not only national pride, but also countless bodybuilding figures that make people call "wash their eyes". So, how much has our aesthetic changed because of these shocks?

In October this year, COSMO and the Digital 100 Research Institute jointly launched the "Women's Body Attitude Survey", which collected a total of 1740 valid questionnaires, and launched the "Women's Body Posture Pink Book" in the December issue. Through the form of online questionnaires, the report focuses on 1740 urban women aged 18 to 40 in 15 new first-tier cities such as Chengdu, Hangzhou and Nanjing, and 25 second-tier cities such as Quanzhou, Jinan, Wuxi and Dalian, paying attention to their personal aesthetics and conducting in-depth analysis of women's body concerns, body management and body anxiety.

In recent years, more and more women have begun to question the single aesthetic of "white skinny", and the high proportion of female customers in gyms, swimming pools and boxing gyms also shows that "muscle gain" has become a never-forget expectation for girls.

However, according to the questionnaire answers collected in this survey, traditional oriental beauty is still the choice of the most people, and the body with curves, whiteness and slenderness have become popular labels. On the contrary, the trend of celebrity models, wheat skin tones, supermodel figures, and athletes that are promoted in social media and fashion magazines is not yet mainstream.

In the questionnaire, we set up an open-ended question – if you can, who would you like to have the same body as?

Why are we so hungry for a good body?

Because more than 80% of respondents said that a good body can bring a series of conveniences in life, but also affect the first impression. And 11.1 percent of women reported that they were often discriminated against in terms of body shape. Body discrimination does not happen very often, but it is like a thorn that makes people involuntarily pay attention to or even be harsh on their body. Therefore, 70% of the respondents said that they were very concerned about others' evaluation of their body, and only 6% did not care or did not care at all, and the degree of independent judgment of body shape was very low. Not only do they care, but many people will compare their bodies with others. However, this comparison is in a normal distribution trend, with the majority of people being neutral and a few comparing or not comparing others.

34% of women say their aesthetics have evolved compared to 5 years ago. In fact, through the pursuit of aesthetic sources, we found that a series of changes have taken place in women's aesthetics in the past 5 years, the most obvious of which is that in the direct source of influence, the influence of partners and friends has risen; while in the indirect source of influence, the influence of film and television and advertising has declined. In addition, the influence of academic qualifications on aesthetics is obvious, women with low academic qualifications are more likely to be affected by acquaintances, and women with high academic qualifications are more affected by media movie stars.

In the questionnaire about body attention, respondents were invited to check in detail their satisfaction with 14 key areas such as face, hands, legs, waist and abdomen, chest, teeth, eyes, and wrinkles, as well as the focus of attention.

In women aged 18-40, the face, legs, waist, abdomen, and chest are the front focus. Respondents who had experienced plastic surgery were more concerned about the chest, buttocks, eyes, nose, wrinkles and other fields than those who did not consider plastic surgery. Among young women aged 18-22, there is a greater focus on body parts, especially the face, legs, teeth, eyes, hands, nose and shoulders, which are significantly higher than other age groups. In addition, among women with low academic qualifications in junior high school and below, the attention to the body is significantly lower, especially the face, legs, teeth, eyes, buttocks, buttocks and wrinkles are significantly lower than those of highly educated women. This phenomenon can be interpreted as the fact that most women with low education have lower incomes and are unable to pay more attention to their bodies in the case of limited budgets.

From the data, the younger the girl, the lower the attention to the chest, but when the age enters the age of 26, the female attention to the chest grows rapidly. On the one hand, this trend comes from the new aesthetic trend of "small breasts" and "deconstruction" that will affect young girls at the earliest, and on the other hand, because 26 years old is a watershed for women to start paying attention to the problem of breast sagging.

More than half of women aged 18-40 are satisfied with their waists and shoulders and necks, but their satisfaction with other parts is not so high. Among the people who weighed themselves every day, the proportion of people who weighed multiple times a day was the highest among people aged 26-30. More than 20% of women weigh 1 or more times a day.

When the media discusses the topic of body anxiety over and over again, how much is the body anxiety of women themselves? Is this a false proposition?

When we invited respondents to rate their body anxiety on a scale of 0-10, the most people chose a score of 7-8, reflecting that body anxiety is a prominent problem. But at the same time, when we invited respondents to rate their body confidence with a score of 0-10, the number of people who chose 6-8 points was also very large. Anxiety and self-confidence exist at the same time, like the two sides of light and darkness.

Have you seen any of the following manifestations?

According to the data, the specific manifestations of female physical anxiety are mainly manifested in exercise and dieting, as well as weaker social manifestations, such as looking in the mirror. 67% of respondents wanted to have plastic surgery but did not implement it, and only 5.2% had experienced plastic surgery.

Nearly half of the respondents had anxiety less than 3 months, and the proportion of anxiety within half a year reached 80%. The earliest period of anxiety that women surveyed generally started was concentrated in the three years of adolescence, college and work, accounting for a total of 87.2%, while the most serious body anxiety was concentrated in the three years after college and work.

Body care, fitness and beauty are the most common ways to manage your body. Of the respondents, about 23 percent of women had had a medical aesthetic. Half of the respondents had purchased sculpted underwear, most commonly to correct their posture and posture. But nearly 50 percent of buyers believe that sculpting underwear has a weight loss-like effect.

For the sake of body management, the girls have tried all kinds of unreliable ways. But the most admired way for COSMO is, of course, fitness.

Running, yoga and walking became the most popular choices. The matter of stature, perseverance can only see the effect.

In addition to improving the body through fitness, many people have tried some high-risk or even harmful ways to achieve the purpose of "optimizing" the body. The price paid is known only to oneself. At the moment of rapid growth of the medical aesthetic market, COSMO is not simply blindly opposed to plastic surgery, but hopes that before choosing, deeply understand the risks that need to be faced, repeatedly consider the necessity of these behaviors, and do not be confused by the slogan of being simple and painless or even "eating a lunch to become beautiful". Your body is your choice and your future.
