From the establishment of the Qing Dynasty by Emperor Taiji to the unification of the Qing army during the Shunzhi period, the Eight Banners Army, as the foundation of the Qing Army, has been particularly valued by the Qing rulers of successive dynasties.
So how much does it cost to raise a disciple of the Eight Banners, the Qing court? After calculating the account book, we can understand that the Qing Dynasty deserves to die, and after the Qing court moved into the Central Plains, the flag bearers of the Qing Dynasty were strictly forbidden to participate in social work, and only allowed to work as soldiers.
The rulers of the Qing Dynasty carried out this move in order to be able to maintain a large number of troops composed of "their own people", at the same time, the Eight Banners disciples went to kill pigs and cut vegetables, as a fellow ethnic group, the emperor also thought that it was a bit depraved his reputation, but don't worry because they can't participate in the work, so what can the Eight Banners do? According to the rules, after the flag man becomes a soldier, he can make up for the shortage of soldiers within the flag, and after making up for it, he can receive silver and military food on a monthly basis.
Because the flag people are hereditary, whether it is a natural or man-made disaster, they can get silver grain in time, so people have given the word above, describing them as hardcore crops. How exactly are hardcore crops divided?
Grain is divided into two parts: "sitting grain" and "walking grain", sitting grain is also a fixed salary, which is based on the type of soldier, the position of the different and high and low points, senior soldiers can get 4 two silver a month, plus 46 pounds of rice, that is, 4600 pounds of rice, this data, to feed a family of several is more than enough. The other branches of the army are not bad, the monthly salary of the horse soldiers is 3 taels of silver, and the salary of the rice is 46 yuan; the monthly salary of the infantry is 125 yuan, and the salary is 22 yuan.
As for "walking grain", even if it is a performance wage, it can only be received when marching and fighting, but in the middle and late Qing Dynasty, the Eight Banners were extremely poor in combat effectiveness because of long-term greed and enjoyment, and when the Jiaqing Emperor was evaluated, many people could not even open their bows completely, so by the time of Kangxi, the main force of the Qing government began to adopt the gradual green camp of the Han people, with this to quell the rebellion in San Francisco. Later, when the Rebellion against the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom was suppressed, the Gradual Xiang Army of Zeng Guofan and others was adopted.
Even so, the treatment of the Eight Banners did not decrease, but they became idle people in the imperial court. In addition, during the Kangxi period, in order to allow them to have a safe place to live, the Qing government also divided a large number of good fields and mansions for the Qi people to live in.
It can be said that their days are leisurely, and many flag people can go out on the streets and smoke big cigarettes. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, most of the Eight Banners troops lost the ability to fight, but still maintained a strength of nearly 200,000 yuan, accounting down, which means that the Qing government has to send out nearly 15 million silver every year, in 1899, although the annual income and taxation of the Qing Dynasty exceeded the 100 million and two major marks, but from 1902 onwards, various unequal treaties and foreign debts made the Qing court have to pay 47 million silver per year, plus the silver paid for the Eight Banners troops, the government was stretched. There is even less money that can be spent on people's livelihood, so how can such a court not die?
