Located in the southeast suburbs of Cangzhou, Hebei Province, there is a precious iron lion called "Zhenhai Roar", which was built in the third year of Guangshun in the Great Zhou (Later Zhou), that is, in 953, with a length of about 6.2 meters and a weight of 32 tons! According to legend, the lotus seat of the Statue of Manjushri Bodhisattva has survived more than a thousand years of wind, frost and rain, but it has not survived the "protection" of cultural relics experts.
In the 1950s, Cangzhou was flooded for many years, and at the suggestion of experts, an octagonal pavilion was built for this iron lion to prevent rain erosion. As everyone knows, due to the overly sealed environment, coupled with the humid and hot environment, the rust and corrosion of this cultural relic has accelerated. Finally, in 1975, the octagonal pavilion was demolished.
In 1984, due to the long-term trapping of the Cangzhou Iron Lion And Lion Foot in the soil, a new 2-meter-high water barrier pedestal was built 8 meters north of the Cangzhou Iron Lion. On November 22, two 30-ton cranes were hoisted synchronously, moving the Cangzhou Iron Lion to the newly built pedestal. Hanging problems: complete defects of the chin, tail, left hind foot, right front foot, a total of 42 damages throughout the body. The biggest hole is the bottom of the abdominal cavity. As early as the 1950s, there was a hole in the bottom of the abdominal cavity, and the area of the hole was not recorded at first. In 1977 it was 5.8 square meters, in 1984 it was 7 square meters. In addition, the sulfur anchoring agent that prevents leg squeeze perfusion during hoisting is not removed in time, and the sulfur compound cools down and solidifies, the volume expands, and the leg break is accelerated.
In 1994, after expert discussion, it was proposed to use iron pipes as a bracket to fix the Cangzhou iron lion. In 1995, sixteen ochre-red iron pipes with a diameter of 15 centimeters were used to support between the platform base and the body of the Cangzhou iron lion. In order to strengthen the four lion legs, the maintenance staff infused slag, sand, lime and other mixed materials with a coefficient of expansion less than that of the sulfur compound. The mixture expanded in the rain, and the cracks in the lion's legs deteriorated again, and dozens of cracks and debris holes appeared.
In 2000, the mixture of slag and sand was cleaned up.
In the 50 years from the 1950s to 2000, the Cangzhou Iron Lion underwent four repairs. Under the condition of immature history, it has exacerbated the damage of the iron lion. In just a few decades, this thousand-year-old monument is about to be destroyed. The Zhenhai roar, which has endured for thousands of years, finally fell on the so-called expert protection.
In 2011, Cangzhou newly cast "Cangzhou Iron Lion", located in Cangzhou City Lion City Park, with a volume of about 120 tons, the volume is 1.32 times that of the original Cangzhou Iron Lion, and the design "life" is 2000 years. But there is still no way to forget the "tortured" scarred old lion.
