Shi Qi, a female soldier of the New Fourth Army: She was buried alive by Kuomintang agents at the age of 20, and she cherished a beautiful love in her heart

This girl, only 20 years old, will always be the age of a flower like a dream. At the end of her 20-year-old life, she experienced a painful experience that was more demonic than a demon, but her life did not wither away, but bloomed more brilliantly than flowers and pearls in the tragic storm.

Standing is an example, an idol, and when you fall, you remain, and when you fall, you will become a long road that is not lonely. Whether standing or falling, it is bright and shining. That's her—Schke.

Shi Qi, a female soldier of the New Fourth Army: She was buried alive by Kuomintang agents at the age of 20, and she cherished a beautiful love in her heart

She is a native of Pinghu, Zhejiang, and in 2015, she returned to her hometown and became a beautiful scenery on the shore of East Lake. The local government specially hired a famous artist to build a bronze statue for her[i], on which she wore the uniform of the New Fourth Army, with a heroic posture, a side, deep and resolute eyes, and turned her beauty into a poem, so that those who had experienced suffering were quietly passed away. So she laughed, like the clear waters of East Lake rippling in the sun. After that, there were always people who came to visit her, bowed and saluted her, and even talked to her, and everyone was proud and proud of her being a Pinghu person, calling her a "rhododendron" that never withered.

Born here in 1922, at the age of 14 in 1936, she entered a Shanghai silk reeling factory as a child laborer due to her family's poverty. This painful experience also led her to the road of revolution in the future. In January 1941, during the Anhui Incident that shocked China and foreign countries, she had become a confidential officer of the Confidential Section of the New Fourth Army, calmly translated telegrams and maintained contact with the Party Central Committee. As the enemy's encirclement grew smaller and smaller, she ordered her superiors to destroy the radio station and burn the code. During the breakout, she was separated from the troops, failed to escape the enemy's search, and was unfortunately captured.

At that time, she was hiding in a peasant family, and several inhumane Kuomintang bandits broke into the room and took turns raping her. After that, the enemy destroyed her in every way and threatened her to turn herself in. But she was unyielding and righteous, denouncing the enemy and refusing his temptation. The enemy became angry and imprisoned her in the Shangrao concentration camp.

The beautiful Shangrao remembers these today. In January 1941, after the Kuomintang launched the Anhui Southern Incident, in March of the same year, a fascist concentration camp was set up in Shangrao Zhoutian, Maojialing, Licun, Qifengyan and other places in Jiangxi Province, the Shangrao Concentration Camp.

Maojialing, known as the "Gexian Temple" in ancient times, has been occupied by the Intelligence Office of the Political Department of the Special Services Department of the Kuomintang Third Theater since the summer of 1939 and has become a secret prison. After the Anhui Incident, a large number of revolutionary volunteers who were most determined and considered to be the most unbearable to be "reformed" were detained here in turn to "melt down." This prison is the darkest and cruelest "prison within prison" in Shangrao concentration camp.

The former site of Licun Prison is located in Lijia Village, Soap head town, Guangxin District, which was originally a warehouse for local farmers to pack millet, redstone and wooden tile structure, bungalows, and 4 small rooms. The Adjutant Office of the Commander's Department of the Kuomintang Third Theater was once used as a guest house, but after the Anhui Incident, it was converted into a prison, imprisoning Ye Ting, commander of the New Fourth Army, Li Zifang, director of the Organization Department of the Political Department of the New Fourth Army, Huang Cheng, secretary general, and Lin Zhifu, minister of enemy industry.

Qifengyan Prison is located in Qifeng Temple, Xishan Village, Tiandun Township, Guangxin District. It was originally a temple connecting a cave. After the Anhui Incident in January 1941, the Kuomintang Third Theater Commander's Headquarters sent troops to drive out the monks in the temple, turned the monks' house in the temple into a secret prison, and stationed a squad of gendarmes to serve as guards. More than 30 people, including Zhang Zhengkun, commander of the 3rd Column of the New Fourth Army, Feng Dafei, deputy commander of the New Fourth Army's Teaching Corps and deputy commander of the 2nd Column, Xu Jinshu, commander of the 5th Regiment of the 3rd Detachment, and Wang Yuxian, deputy director and acting director of the Military Medical Department of the Military Department, were imprisoned here.

Zhoutian Prison is the base camp of the Shangrao concentration camp, and the headquarters of the "Officer Brigade" of the Kuomintang Third Theater, the headquarters of the "Special Training Class", and the regimental headquarters of the "Southeast Branch" are all located here. Prison premises were converted from occupied houses. It is distributed in two natural villages, Zhoutian and Xiazhoutian. There are 13 well-preserved ancestral halls and 13 large and small rooms in the whole Upper and Lower Zhoutian Prisons, including upper and lower Zhoutian Prisons (that is, the cells of the 1st, 2rd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6 squadrons and the girls' teams), the Great Hall, the Morgue, the "Seven Gentlemen" cell, the "Officer Brigade Headquarters", the "Special Training Class" Headquarters, Zhang Chao's office, and the Captain's Room, covering an area of more than 30 acres. Zhang Chao, the head of the special agent, and his subordinate special agent captains, squadron leaders, and district captains were stationed here. After liberation, the relevant cultural relics protection departments protected and repaired the old site of Zhoutian. [ii]

In the camp, her lower body festered and she could not move, and agents isolated her in a house in the infirmary, without treatment or care. Because she could not get up and it was inconvenient to urinate, the doctor saw that she was pitiful, so he punched a hole in her bed board and asked her to pull the urine out of the hole and let it flow into the basin under the bed. Even at this point, the agents forced her to turn herself in and said to her, "You are all like this, have you not repented of turning yourself in?" If you say yes, we'll see you right away!" She said, "I'm not guilty, what's guilty is what you pigs and dogs are inferior to!" Although my body has been defiled by you, my soul is always clean and pure! ”

The agent's coercion did not shake her conviction, she still persisted in the struggle, taking advantage of various opportunities to contact the captured comrades of the New Fourth Army, pass on the news, encourage the comrades to escape from prison confidence, and said: "As long as my heart is still beating, I will never stop the struggle against the enemy!" Revolutions come at a price, and victory cannot wait. "The comrades in arms of the New Fourth Army who were arrested, seeing that she was once vigorous, strong and beautiful, was tortured to death by the enemy, full of indignation and grief, and under the guidance of the party branch in prison, united as one, protested, and demanded that the prison authorities send her to the hospital for treatment.

In the hospital, the medical staff carefully treated her and made her condition better. At that time, a nurse named Gan Yuzhen was very sympathetic to her, willing to help her escape from the tiger's mouth, prepared enough travel expenses and costumes, and found a road map, asking her to escape from prison through Yushan and go to Jiangshan County to find a teacher and husband, and then contact her and send her back to the New Fourth Army. Unexpectedly, the traitor and female agent who monitored her discovered that she had the intention of fleeing, and she was brought back to the concentration camp, while Gan Yuzhen and the teacher couple in Jiangshan were also arrested and imprisoned.

Subsequently, as her condition deteriorated, she may realize that it is difficult for her to get out of the concentration camp of this hell on earth, and a group of comrades who are preparing to escape from prison secretly come to visit her, and she is worried that her illness will drag down her comrades, and she said to everyone affectionately: "Leave me alone, you go quickly." Please tell the Party organization that although I am still a young Party member and have not experienced enough training and testing, my heart is thinking of the Party even to my death! After you go out, tell everyone what happened to me, accuse the Kuomintang reactionaries of their crimes, and avenge me and thousands of dead comrades-in-arms! So he changed his name to "Zhou Lin"[iii], and cherished in his heart a love that still moves people.

Why is it called "Zhou Lin"? It was because of a comrade-in-arms of the New Fourth Army named Zhou Shan.

Zhou Shan, formerly known as Zhou Zhongkui, was born on August 22, 1917 in Dinghai County, Zhejiang Province (now Luhua Township, Putuo County), joined the New Fourth Army in 1937, joined the Communist Party of China in May 1938, and was attacked by Chiang Kai-shek at Zhoujiaduo, Gaoyou on November 24, 1946, and unfortunately died heroically at the age of 29. In the history of China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, there is a little-known historical fact: in 1937, the "August 13" Songhu Battle broke out, and the anti-Japanese war boom swept the whole country, and people's patriotic enthusiasm was high, and they threw themselves into the anti-Japanese salvation movement. The Songhu Battlefield Ambulance Brigade, composed of Shanghai coal workers, with the financial support of the national capitalist Liu Hongsheng, completed the rescue work on the Songhu battlefield and the transfer of more than 4,000 wounded soldiers; after that, they also legendarily transported thousands of Red Army guerrillas scattered in the six provinces of Jiangnan to southern Anhui, making contributions to the building of the New Fourth Army. [v]

Shi Qi and Zhou Shan met in the Shanghai Coal Industry Ambulance Team, and together with the Red Cross, they rushed to the front line in a truck that used to transport coal, and transported the wounded one by one to the hou hospital for treatment in the rain of bullets and bullets. Patriotic feelings and youthful enthusiasm make the two young hearts deeply attract each other in the smoke-filled environment. After the fall of Shanghai, the ambulance team split into two parts and went south, reaching Tunxi Huangdun in mid-December 1937 to meet. At this time, the work and life of the ambulance team have become problems, and the way out is also somewhat uncertain. The leaders of the ambulance team wanted to take everyone to Yan'an to join the Eighth Route Army, and some speculators who had mixed in wanted to use the strength of the coal industry team as capital to join the Kuomintang Third Theater Wounded Soldier Management Office, so as to achieve the opportunity for personal promotion and wealth.

Under these circumstances, the ambulance team launched a study and propaganda activity to clean the mind, and Shi Qi and Zhou Shan strengthened their faith in the revolution for their lovers, and while encouraging each other with their comrades, they gradually deepened their understanding of each other. Zhou Shan's boldness, ability, fearlessness, Shi Qi's simplicity, kindness, and hard work, the rain and dew of the revolution silently nourish their love for each other.

In 1938, after transporting the wounded to Rear Bases such as Nanchang, the ambulance team prepared to go to Yan'an to join the Eighth Route Army. At this moment, they learned from the newspapers and rumors from the masses that the New Fourth Army had moved to Nanchang, Jiangxi, which meant that they could join the New Fourth Army nearby and hand over the cars and other supplies to the New Fourth Army. On March 9, the 108 members of the ambulance team solemnly announced their collective participation in the New Fourth Army, and 25 cars were also incorporated into the battle sequence of the New Fourth Army, and Shi Qi and Zhou Shan embarked on the bright road. Zhou Shan served as an officer of the Military Justice Department of the Military Department, and Shi Qi entered the teaching corps to study. Because both of them had a motivation not to accept defeat, they always wanted to be advanced and wanted to do their work forward, and soon they were unanimously praised by the chiefs and comrades, and the flower of love in their hearts quietly bloomed more brilliantly.

So, get married. Zhou Shan wanted to make such a confession to Shi Qi, but he also knew that this could not succeed, because the army stipulated that cadres had 3 necessary conditions for marriage, and they were 28 years old and three years old, and they had to be regimental-level cadres. On the eve of the anhui incident, the troops arranged for Zhou Shan to go north ahead of schedule. Zhou Shan said to Shi Qi, "I don't know when we will see each other... Let's get married! Shi Qi, who knew the discipline of the troops, did not mention the 3 prerequisites, but said: "After the victory of the War of Resistance, we will return to our hometown and get married next to our parents!" In this way, a pair of lovers separated, but their hearts were closer.

On the night of June 8, 1942, when Shi Qi was still alive, several Kuomintang agents carried her to the foothills of Lei Gong Mountain. There, they dug a pit for her and then pushed her in and buried her alive. The dirt fell on her face and body, and she silently called her name, "Zhou Lin", without leaving a word for people. But when she was completely buried in the dirt, the agents saw that she was moving like a living flame underground, causing the dirt that had covered her to move gently. The agents were not dead-hearted, and some of them were afraid to step on the dirt with their feet until the dirt was completely motionless.

A 20-year-old girl with a prosperous life has lost her young life in this way. When the bad news came, Zhou Shan was heartbroken, vowed to avenge Shi Qi, and threw himself into battle more heroically and tenaciously. In the autumn of 1946, the New Fourth Army withdrew to the north, and Zhou Shan was ordered to stay in the Soviet Union and persist in the struggle. At this time, Zhou Shan served as deputy director of the Social Department of the Party Committee of The Central Jiangsu District and director of the Public Security Bureau of the Central Soviet Administration. At the beginning of October, Gaoyou, Baoqing and other counties under the prefectural party committee were lost one after another. On November 24, Zhou Shan was attacked by two companies of the 25th Division of the Kuomintang and the "Homecoming Regiment" in the struggle against the "Qing Suppression" in Zhoujiaduo, the first district of gaoyoujie, where the Kuomintang army focused on "clearing and suppressing", and after hitting the last bullet in his hand, he jumped into the mighty river and sacrificed his precious life for the revolution.

Zhoushan, the geometric center of land geography in Jiangsu Province, because it is located at the junction of reeds and dryland in the Lixiahe area, has become one of the important areas where I led the broad masses of the people to carry out revolutionary struggles in Gaoyou. This red hot land is full of moving deeds and revolutionary songs of the people's sons and soldiers who heroically killed the enemy and the broad masses of the people supported the army. Here, Su Yu, Ye Fei, Ji Pengfei, Hui Yuyu and other revolutionaries of the older generation once carried out revolutionary struggles. Zhoushan, because of Zhoushan, became the only township in the area of present-day Yangzhou named after a revolutionary martyr.

The hero's name became a place name here, and in 1985, the Qingming Festival, Zhoushan Town expanded the Zhoushan Martyrs Cemetery, and a grand unveiling ceremony was held in zhoushan martyrs' square, with a total of more than 5,000 people participating. Today, in this red hot land, people can clearly see the beautiful scenery on the shore of the East Lake - the young and beautiful 20-year-old girl Shi Qi is smiling slightly. The Shangrao concentration camp she experienced in those years established the Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery as early as 1955 and became a historical textbook for the struggle of the revolutionary ancestors against the enemy. The love of "azalea" never fades, it is a personal name, a place name, and a spirit.

Finally, I would like to tell you that before Zhou Shan's sacrifice, he wrote to his fifteen- or sixteen-year-old brother Zhou Zhongzhao: "The enemy is coming, the motherland is in danger, we should take up arms and fight!" Of course, the struggle will encounter the problem of life and death, but in order to resist the war, why should we die! On the contrary, what is the point of being confused and alive! "Zhou Zhongzhao later joined the army because of his brother, and won the love and respect of Su Yu, and became an expert in codebreaking for our army's reconnaissance and intelligence work. On September 12, 1978, he died of overwork and sudden heart attack as deputy commander of the Huizhou Military Subdistrict of the Anhui Provincial Military Region. He was 55 years old.

Revolutionary love, even if fleeting, becomes eternal. "Rhododendron" never fades, it is a personal name, a place name, and a spirit. Brothers, sisters-in-law, younger brothers; soldiers, love and affection, battle and career, former servants and successors, endless life.
