Life and death speed! Shanghai Medical Care successfully treated children with 5-month-old giant hepatoblastoma

China Youth Daily client news (correspondent Cao Xi, China Youth Daily, China Youth Network reporter Wei Qimeng) reporter learned from Shanghai Oriental Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital that a few days ago, the hospital successfully treated a 5-month-old giant hepatoblastoma child who was admitted to the ICU (intensive care unit) twice.

On the evening of November 11, Chong Chong (pseudonym), a 5-month-old child who had just been admitted to the hospital, ruptured the 80mmx90mm giant hepatoblastoma in the abdominal cavity due to crying, required emergency indwelling central venous catheterization, and may need emergency surgery at any time, and the ICU bell rang for the first time.

Previously, Chong Chong's parents had taken him to a number of well-known hospitals, and because the child was too young and the operation was too difficult, he was told that there was no chance of surgery. Faced with the loving parents and the innocent life of the young child, Dr. Yang Guangshun of the hospital decided to admit him to the hospital with courage and experience to try to prepare for the removal of the tumor before surgery.

In order to successfully carry out surgery, in addition to the surgeon's excellent skills, it is also necessary to have complete anesthesia, critical care, and nursing protection. In the evening, the hospital invited the pediatric Zhou Lin medical team of Changhai Hospital to assist in formulating a detailed plan, and Sun Yuming, director of the department of anesthesiology, immediately coordinated the operating room and the anesthesia doctor, the head nurse of the operating room arranged for the nurse to cooperate, and the surgeon simultaneously prepared for emergency surgery.

The usually simple central vein puncture turned into a race against the "God of Death" on Chong Chong's body. The rescue work was carried out in an intense and orderly manner with the cooperation of three departments: tao yong, anesthesiologist, inserted a tracheal catheter thinner than a pencil in the child's airway, and general anesthesia was successfully completed; Dr. Zhang Jinmin successfully placed an internal jugular venous catheter on the neck of a child with only one finger width through ultrasound guidance, and the child's vital signs were stable and he did not need emergency surgery for the time being.

Children with life-saving access are immediately transferred to the ICU for continued treatment. After the condition stabilized, the child was smoothly transferred back to the ward. The head nurse of the ward, Shi Chunfeng, led the nursing team to take over the nursing of the child, and the surgery, anesthesia and severe care began to make treatment and surgical plans for the children.

On the third day after returning to the ward, the operation officially began. Director Sun Yuming "sat down" for anesthesia, Dr. Qiu Haibo carefully operated, smooth and stable, dr. Zhang Haibin calmly raised the scalpel under the leadership of teacher Yang Guangshun. Because of the size of the tumor, each step requires hemostatic forceps to tossing and turning between several important blood vessels. During the operation, the medical team found that the actual situation of the rush was more serious than the preoperative MRI showed, and only a quarter of the liver was able to retain. In the end, the medical team successfully removed almost 1/8 of the child's body weight.

After the operation was successfully completed, Chong Chong stayed in the ICU for 4 days and was transferred back to the five-department nursing ward of extrahepatic surgery; after 9 days, the indicators gradually returned to normal. At the moment of discharge, the innocent smile returned to Chong Chong's face.
