Sakura became the first patient in China to successfully deliver a baby's heart-lung combination transplant.

In 2011, 18-year-old Sakura frequently experienced chest tightness, difficulty breathing, and even fainting after exercise. The examination found that due to congenital ventricular defects, she had been secondarily developed with severe pulmonary hypertension, after which she underwent extracorporeal circulation inferior ventricular septal defect repair surgery at Xiangya Second Hospital. However, since then, Sakura's condition has not been effectively alleviated, and secondary pulmonary hypertension has gradually developed into Eisenmenger syndrome, becoming difficult to breathe, frequent hemoptysis, and may lose her life at any time.

In October 2014, under the convocation of Professor Yuan Yunchang, vice president of the hospital, the medical team led by Professors of Cardiovascular Surgery Zhou Xinmin and Hu Jianguo successfully completed the heart-lung joint transplant operation for Sakura after 5 hours.

In 2020, Sakura got married. "Professor Zhou, I want to have a baby." When Zhou Xinmin heard Sakura's idea, he couldn't help but be shocked. Because, even if an ordinary pregnant woman, in the process of pregnancy in October, the burden on the heart, liver, kidneys and other aspects will increase, not to mention a patient who has done a combined heart-lung transplant, which has not yet had a successful experience in China.

"The regulation of immunosuppressants before pregnancy is very important, and if the amount is small, the risk of organ rejection in patients will increase; if the amount is large, it will increase the risk of infection, and may also cause damage to the function of other organ systems." Peng Longkai consulted various literature, according to Sakura's situation, early removal of drugs that affect pregnancy and fetal development, individualized real-time adjustment of anti-rejection drugs, immunosuppressive programs, for Sakura to prepare for pregnancy, pregnancy, and childbirth.

After 1 month of preparing for pregnancy, in early 2021, Sakura was naturally conceived. After rigorous prenatal diagnosis such as amniocentesis, ultrasound, embryo chromosomes and genetic testing, the baby's condition is generally stable and normal.

At the time of Sakura's 36th week pregnancy, the hospital organized obstetrics, cardiovascular surgery, organ transplant center, anesthesiology, respiratory and critical care medicine, surgery department, and nursing department to conduct MDT consultations for Sakura, carefully formulated a thorough delivery plan, and decided to perform a caesarean section for Sakura at the 38th week of pregnancy.

On the morning of November 15, Xu Junmei, vice president in charge of medical work, also came to the scene, as an anesthesiologist, Xu Junmei immediately chose to perform a cesarean section under lumbar-hard combined anesthesia. At 9:15 a.m., Sakura gave birth to a healthy baby girl of 3.4 kilograms, jointly performed a cesarean section by Professor Pi Xiang of obstetrics, Professor Zheng Hong of the Department of Anesthesiology, and the surgical team.
