The Professional Triathlon Organization (PTO) today announced the start of planning for a new series of tour events for 2022. The PTO Tour consists of several races held at different locations, each with the same distance, for a total of 100 kilometers. Swim for 2 km, 80 km of bike paths and 18 km of running.
The Canadian Open will take place in Edmonton from 23 to 24 July 2022.
The Collins Cup in Zamorim, Czech Republic, will take place from 20 to 21 August 2022.
The series will conclude at the U.S. Open in Dallas, Texas, September 17-18, 2022.
At the same time, the Asian Open is also planned. Triathlon enthusiasts can expect a very gold-laden starting list for this series: because many professional players face the temptation of huge sums of money. At the Canadian Open and the U.S. Open, organizers will each distribute $1 million in prize money, and $1.5 million at The Collins Cup in Samoring!
And all matches will be broadcast live worldwide. Germany's star, KONA World Championship winner Patrick Langer has high hopes for the series: "I think it's great, what the PTO is doing and all the announced plans will be implemented. The Collins Cup has shown what is possible and has convinced me that the overall plan can be implemented smoothly. He sees the potential to make the sport and athletes more popular.
In addition to professional competitions, the PTO Tour also includes competitions for athletes in the amateur age group. In the same race venue, amateurs can choose between a medium distance of 100 kilometers and a sprint distance of 25 kilometers and a regular distance of 50 kilometers, depending on their strengths and preferences. This gives the tour's weekend a festive character and makes it a family-friendly sporting event.
