In October, BYD delivered more than 80,000 electric vehicles worldwide, while Tesla sold 48,500 vehicles worldwide in October. This marks that BYD has once again won the top of the sales title from Tesla with a double gap, and the Chinese brand has once again won the global electric vehicle sales championship.
In fact, in the global electric vehicle sales ranking, Chinese brands are either the first or the second, and Tesla can almost be said to be "entangled" in the state. But after proving myself with sales, there are still many "jokes" about "supporting BYD, but I bought Tesla". Is this "joke" really accidental? BYD and Tesla, what is the gap?

Are pure electric and hybrid comparable?
As a completely pure electric brand, Tesla has four models, and the main ones that support its sales are the Model 3 and Model Y. Among them, Model Y's october global sales were 27,800 units, and Model 3's was 16,500 units.
Looking at BYD, among its global sales of more than 80,000 vehicles, there are pure electric models such as Han EV and Qin Plus EV, but there are also hybrid models such as Han DM, Song DM, and Tang DM. For example, in October, Qin Plus DM-i sold 17,500 units, and Song Plus/Pro DM-i sold 11,300 units. That is to say, in the field of pure electric power, the gap between Tesla and BYD may not be as large as the data shows.
Who is more technical?
In terms of pure electric technology, BYD currently has its own pure electric exclusive platform e platform 3.0. In terms of batteries, BYD has its own blade batteries. In the core battery, motor, electronic control chip, Tesla is basically outsourced, and even some time ago there was news that BYD will supply blade batteries to Tesla in the second quarter of next year.
BYD is not only the main supplier of core components of other vehicle companies, but also a manufacturer of the vehicle business, in terms of pure electric technology, BYD is obviously better.
Talking about buying BYD, but buying Tesla?
So, why is it that when BYD's electric technology is significantly stronger than Tesla's, some people still choose Tesla in the end?
In fact, Tesla mainly makes money from BMS (battery management system) software and FSD (fully autonomous driving) software. If BYD has won over Tesla in hardware, Tesla is better at software. For example, tesla launched a $3,000 "Acceleration Boost" acceleration performance upgrade package, it is difficult to imagine that any car manufacturer in China would be so bold, relying on 100 kilometers to accelerate the upgrade and want to make a lot of money.
In addition, as mentioned in the opening paragraph, the product positioning of the two car companies is completely different. Tesla wants to engage in high-end electric vehicles, and its models are almost all above 250,000 yuan. Bydir, at present, is still focusing on the low-end electric market. Therefore, there are many Chinese who want to be economical, and finally choose Tesla for "face".
