As the inheritor of the "Two Kings" lineage, Zhiyong, as a descendant of Wang Xizhi, has made great contributions to the dedicated research and development of his ancestors' calligraphy.
Chi Yong monk
Zhiyong monk (date of birth and death unknown), a native of the Southern Dynasty and Sui Dynasty, whose real name was Wang Faji, the character Zhiyong, the person of Huiji Shanyin, the seventh grandson of Shusheng Wang Xizhi, the fifth son of Wang Hui, was called "Yong Zen Master".
From an early age, Zhiyong greatly admired the calligraphy of Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi of Naizu, and was once determined to make the calligraphy of his family forever. In order to practice calligraphy, the brush was bald with an unknown number of branches, and the brush he practiced was accumulated several urns. Later, he buried these brushes in one place and buried them with his own inscription, which was then called "Retired Pen Tomb".
After unremitting efforts, Zhiyong's calligraphy has made great progress, and his fame has become more and more famous, and there are countless people who seek his authentic works, and there are many people who come to the door to seek advice, so that his outdoor ass is always full, and even the threshold is broken, Zhiyong had to use iron sheets to strengthen the threshold, which was called "iron threshold" by people at the time.
"Retiring the pen tomb" and "iron threshold" have become good stories in the book world, and Han Zhangzhi's "pool water and ink" of washing pens and washing shuo are intertwined, which is also a beautiful conversation for thousands of years.
I have to say that Zhiyong is really smart, in that era without high technology, Zhiyong also made enough efforts to publicize his own calligraphy, he carefully studied Wang Xizhi's calligraphy, personally wrote the "Thousand Character Text", wrote 800 posts as soon as he wrote it, and after writing it, he sent it to major temples and people with relatives, and then let them "promote" Wang Xizhi's calligraphy by learning his own calligraphy, comparable to modern promotional single advertisements.
The direct effect of this is that the Sui and Tang dynasties after the Wei and Jin Dynasties began to consciously pay attention to the calligraphy of the "Second King", especially Tang Taizong, who did not forget to instruct his son to accompany the funeral with the Orchid Pavilion Preface before his death.
Zhiyong's influence on the calligraphy of later generations was not only in publicity, he also created his own "Yongzi Eight Laws" to set an example for future generations of calligraphy. The influence of the Shōnen 1000 Characters of True Grass is as far as Japan, and even now it is still a classic teaching material for the study of calligraphy.
His "True Grass Thousand Character Text" adopts the method of interpreting cursive calligraphy in italics, which is convenient for learners to interpret cursive characters, and can also let people appreciate his two genres of calligraphy at the same time, which can be described as killing two birds with one stone.
Although the cursive writing in zhiyong's "Thousand Character Text" is entirely due to Wang Xizhi, it inherits the cursive rule. However, this post is one word per grid, each word is independent, and it is written in accordance with the rules, unlike Wang Xizhi and Zhang Qian's pen and ink flying and the words are connected.
Although he inherits Wang Xizhi's brushwork, there are one or two strokes in each word that particularly emphasize the pen strength, which shows the concentration of Zhiyong's expression when writing the book, and the heavy pen is round and in tune, and the fat is appropriate.
ZhiYong's true book in the Thousand Character Text is a line letter, which is lighter than the main letter. There are also one or two pens in each word, which makes the characters more vivid and elegant, and most of the calligraphy after the Tang and Song Dynasties also likes Shi Chengzhiyong's characters.
This work is rigorous in law, skillful in penmanship, and there is still ancient meaning in the ethereal, from beginning to end, the pen is full of ink, full of spirit, and meticulous stroke by stroke, it can be said that it is a fine work in a book.
At the same time, its character posture is round, the pen is clear, the structure is stable, coupled with the penmanship of the line, the chapter is natural, the style is unified, and it is an excellent copying work for beginners.
Mi Fu's "Famous Sayings of Haiyue" commented: "Zhi Yong Lin collects a thousand texts, is beautiful and round, and has eight sides.". Su Shi commented: "The essence of the ability, the return to the thinness." ”
This book represents the gentle style of the Southern Book of the Sui Dynasty, inherits and summarizes the knotting and grass method of the "two kings" and the two bodies of the grass, and establishes its exemplary role from the body method.
There are two kinds of "True Grass Thousand Character Text" that have been handed down, namely inkblots and engravings. The inkblot is in The Japanese collection, on paper, in a book. Counting 202 lines and crosses on each line, it was originally the old collection of Tanitetsu, and later returned to Ogawa as Jiro. Commentators believe that the inkblot is the true handiwork of Zhiyong, and some people suspect that it is the Tang Dynasty Linben.
The Tuoben is in the collection of the Palace Museum. From the perspective of the development of book history, the normative role of Zhiyong's "True Grass Thousand Character Text" volume exceeds the influence of the "Xiping Stone Classic" passed down to the Eastern Han Dynasty Cai Yongshu.
Ming Du Mu's "Allegory Chapter" commented on its words: "Zhiyong's "True Grass Thousand Character Text", qi rhymes and flies, excellent into the divine product, and is the first in the world's law book." ”
