According to the report, every year, the South Korean government conducts health surveys on the people and conducts statistics based on multiple indicators such as chronic diseases, smoking, alcohol consumption, and nutrition. The results showed that the obesity rate of Koreans, the prevalence of chronic diseases, depression and other mental health indicators were significantly worse than before the outbreak of the new crown epidemic.

Specifically, obesity rates among adults over the age of 19 have increased in South Korea. In particular, the obesity rate among men rose from 41.8% in 2019 to 48% in 2020, a new high since relevant statistics were available.

Among them, the obesity rate of men in their 30s in South Korea reached 58.2%, an increase of 11.8% over the previous year, followed by those in their 40s. Over the same period, the obesity rate among South Korean women increased slightly from 25 percent to 27.7 percent. Among them, the obesity rate in the 20s is the highest, at 6.3%. This is followed by the 60s and only about 1% in the 30s to 40s.

The report pointed out that from the perspective of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, the prevalence of men has also increased. Among them, among men in their 40s, the proportion of people with hypercholesterolemia increased by nearly 8% year-on-year.

It is reported that the prevalence of depression in South Koreans has increased regardless of gender. Among them, the prevalence of depression in men is equivalent to twice that of 2018. The analysis believes that the reason for this situation is mainly the long-term spread of the new crown epidemic, which has aggravated the depression of the people.
