In 2021, while accelerating the promotion of the electric mobility strategy, the Volkswagen Group will further promote green production through a number of initiatives, build a sustainable supply chain, and steadily move towards the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Several of the Group's production sites have adopted renewable electricity and achieved energy efficiency improvements, while actively promoting effective measures throughout the supply chain to reduce carbon emissions and achieve sustainable development.

Since the beginning of this year, the Group has vigorously promoted decarbonization and worked with partners to expand the use of renewable electricity. The Group's two MEB plants in Anting and Foshan have achieved 100% renewable electricity through distributed photovoltaics, direct purchase of electricity, renewable power certificates, etc., and reduced production energy consumption through a variety of energy-saving equipment. The latest Volkswagen Anhui MEB plant plans to use renewable electricity from the start of production, while taking a series of energy-saving measures to reduce overall carbon emissions.
It is reported that in 2022, the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation at Volkswagen's factories in China will reach 200 megawatts, and its power generation is expected to account for about 10% of the total power consumption of all the Group's factories in China. "The Volkswagen Group, together with its Chinese partners and suppliers, has developed a roadmap for the use of renewable electricity – by 2030, the Group's fuel and electric vehicle suppliers will use 100% renewable electricity. In 2021, more than 200 suppliers signed agreements with the Group, committing to gradually switch to renewable electricity. Volkswagen Anhui has set higher targets in the battery supply chain, and the first new energy model will be 100% renewable electricity when it is put into production in the second half of 2023
Mr. Pei Mingjie, Executive Vice President and Head of Purchasing Department of Volkswagen Group China, said: "At present, a number of Tier 1 suppliers have set ambitious targets, including halving production-related carbon emissions by 2030 and fully achieving climate neutrality for all emissions by 2040. We believe that working closely with our suppliers and partners will help us drive sustainable development along the industrial value chain and achieve the Group's goal of being carbon neutral. ”
