The Snooker World Grand Prix was founded in 2015 as an invitational tournament, held in the town of Llandudno, Wales, and has been upgraded to a ranking tournament since 2016 and continues to this day. In 2017, the tournament was moved to guild halls in Preston, England, and in 2020 it was moved to Cheltenham City, England. Only players who have finished in the top 32 in the world rankings in a single season are eligible to participate in the World Grand Prix.
