The "3 wang chundong - Cheng Xindong Contemporary Art Collection Exhibition" opened at the Tianjin Art Museum on October 23, 2021 as the third stop of the national tour, and due to the impact of the epidemic, no opening ceremony was held. The exhibition specially invited academic host Ji Shaofeng, director of Hubei Art Museum and art critic, and Sultan, deputy director of Tsinghua University Art Museum; Artistic Director Ma Chi; Hosted by Tianjin Art Museum; It has been supported by the Embassy of France in China, the Embassy of Croatia in China, the Embassy of Cuba in China, the Art Museum of Tsinghua University, and the Hubei Art Museum. The "Thirty Years of Looking forward to Chundong - Cheng Xindong Contemporary Art Collection Exhibition" is the third large-scale collection exhibition after the exhibition of "'What on East and West' Cheng Xindong Contemporary Sculpture Art Collection Exhibition" at Hubei Art Museum in 2018 and the "Thirty Years of East and West Looking west: Cheng Xindong Contemporary Art Collection" exhibition held at tsinghua university art museum in 2020.
The exhibition presents 55 contemporary art works by more than 40 international and domestic artists. 60% of the contemporary art collection in this collection is the latest appearance. He also donated two works to the Tianjin Art Museum: the stainless steel sculpture "Ruyi" by artist Shi Jianmin; The other is the artist Jin Defeng's oil painting "Three Hundred Acres of Orchard".

As a well-known international curator, Cheng Xindong has witnessed the growth of Chinese contemporary art in the past three decades and made outstanding contributions to its international and domestic dissemination. Not only can we see the growth path of an artist, but also under the connection of this growth path, we can explore the development clues of Chinese contemporary art in the context of globalization, and then perceive the relationship between people, society and nature in different cultures and eras through the multiple media that make up these works.

There are all kinds of legends around Chinese contemporary art, and this legend belongs not only to the artist, but also to the promoters and interpreters behind the artists. Mr. Cheng Xindong has such legends.
As a gifted science and engineering student, when Cheng Xindong studied in Europe in his early years, he entered the French art world because of a perfect street conversation, and because of the exhibition project of the French art master Suraje of the National Art Museum of China, he returned to China, at the right time, with his just right aesthetic and European art institution resources, and just right to intervene in Chinese contemporary art. Since then, in the collection ecology of Chinese contemporary art, he has his own space. Now that I think about it, there are so many "just right" encounters around him, in addition to his spring breeze-like personality, but also in that he and these brave contemporary artists are the same age, they were born in the 60s of the last century, studied in the 80s, matured in the 90s, he and these artists, no one is bigger than anyone, no one is younger than anyone. For him, the most romantic thing in the world, he slowly grew old with these artists.
Thirty years, for the complete history of art, there may be only a few pages, maybe only a few lines, but for a person, it represents the wonderful and lingering memories of most of his life, and every collection exhibited here, including what he did not have the opportunity to exhibit here, put at home, every collection in the storeroom, has his story, has his mind, has his years. It can also be said that the mark of an artist's success is that his works are scattered in all corners of the world, and Cheng Xindong's art space is such a great corner, which carries the joy, sentimentality, honor, lightness, mysteries and statements he has embraced, he uses such a public display to comb through the thirty years he has walked, and also tries to let himself go back again, what pulls him is the road, but also the truth - art can be a very good story, but the best art will not tell you a story , only to give you reason.
This exhibition is the third stop of the national tour of cheng xindong contemporary art collection exhibition after Hubei Art Museum and Tsinghua University Art Museum, every work exhibited here is condensed with imagination and creation, we thank Mr. Cheng Xindong for sharing, and at the same time thank him for donating two wonderful works.

Q: This exhibition of the collection of Tianjin Art Museum is already the third exhibition of the collection of the art museum, please introduce the basic situation of this exhibition.
A: At the invitation of Mr. Ma Chi, director of tianjin art museum, we had half a year from the beginning of communication to the completion of the exhibition. However, due to the impact of the epidemic, the original opening ceremony attended by nearly 200 guests from all walks of life (including France, Poland, Belgium, Croatia, Uruguay, Romania, etc.) on October 23 was cancelled. However, the exhibition still has a large audience every day, and the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts has also organized teachers and students to visit the exhibition many times. The exhibition will continue after the Spring Festival and will last for 4 months to February 2022.
This is also the first private collection exhibition of contemporary art works since the founding of the Tianjin Art Museum, which is of historical significance.
Q: What are the differences between this exhibition and the previous two?
A: These three collection exhibitions, starting from the "What on East and West" contemporary sculpture art collection exhibition held at Hubei Art Museum in 2018, are a thematic exhibition. For Hubei Art Museum, it is the first time to present an exhibition of a collector's personal contemporary art collection. Then, in 2020, the Tsinghua University Art Museum will hold a contemporary art collection exhibition of "Looking East and West for Thirty Years", which is a more comprehensive presentation of my collection over the past thirty years, with 101 pieces, including a large-scale personal collection exhibition with the participation of various media. It is the overall face of my collection, and the content is very rich. Linked to my personal growth in the art industry, I intervened in the contemporary art circle from two threads, both domestic and international. Whether it is international or domestic, it is basically in line with the relatively complete overall appearance of my 30 years of intervention in contemporary art.
This exhibition of the Tianjin Art Museum's "Looking forward to Chundong" collection returns to the cultural identity level of man and nature, man and society, and revolves around the theme of "landscape". There are 55 works exhibited. There are many media including video, sculpture, painting, photography, etc. The biggest feature is that 60% of the works exhibited at the Tianjin Art Museum this time have not been presented in the previous two exhibitions.
These three collection exhibitions have both correlation and their own characteristics. The reason for this characteristic is also related to the difference between different art museums, their own background characteristics, and the differences in the exhibition space of the art museum.

Q: Is there any recent collection in this collection?
A: There are new collections, including the latest collection of the tianjin academy of fine arts teacher Liu Jun's sculpture "No Phase" series. He borrowed the Taihu stone, which has the symbol of traditional literati symbolism. The first is the miraculous work created by nature, which has been recreated by him into a work of contemporary art. Not only was it loved by literati, he borrowed Taihu stone as a medium to reconstruct a classic image in the history of world art. What is very interesting about this is the collision of two civilizations in the process of globalization.
There is also a young post-90s artist Guan Xinran, who also has an abstract oil painting on display. This is also a work collected in the second half of this year, a very good work.
Q: Is there a donation?
A: Regarding the donation, Wuhan donated 3 contemporary sculpture works; Tsinghua University Art Museum 17 pieces. This time, two works were donated to the Tianjin Art Museum, one is the stainless steel sculpture "Ruyi" by artist Shi Jianmin; The other is the artist Jin Defeng's oil painting "Three Hundred Acres of Orchard".
For me, I have been in the industry for more than 30 years, and donating when I have relative conditions is a feedback to the society. In my life, art has given me a lot, opened up my horizons and the connection between the world, and enriched the course of my life. Through the donation of works of art, we can give back to the society, hoping that more people can get some inspiration from the great creations of these artists and bring some changes to people's lives.
Q: Are there any new plans for the collection exhibition in the future?
A: So there are these three collection exhibitions. In the future plan, I will present my 30-year collection of contemporary art in different experimental spaces.
In the middle of April next year, when the spring is in full bloom, I will make a donation exhibition of 30 contemporary art works at the Huzhou Art Museum in my hometown, and I will also donate 2,000 art books.
