Volkswagen CEO: Plans to sell or go public with the battery division

Recently, Volkswagen Group CEO Dies said that Volkswagen is ready to sell or list the battery division separately, and has prepared for the capital market, not excluding the introduction of external partners. If the stand-alone listing is successful, the division expects to achieve sales of €20 billion by 2030.

Volkswagen CEO: Plans to sell or go public with the battery division

It is understood that on November 25, Apple's global battery development director Soonho Ahn will join Volkswagen to take charge of Volkswagen's future battery project. On May 20 last year, Volkswagen will invest 3.5 billion yuan to build its own power battery plant, which will be officially put into operation in 2023. The change in the direction of the battery division is related to the overall change of the Volkswagen Group at present. On October 13, Volkswagen considered laying off up to 30,000 employees to compete with Tesla.

To ensure that it is not affected by supply chain shortages when sprinting eviction sales in the next five years, Volkswagen has also recently announced three battery partners, which have formed partnerships with Umicore, 24M Technologies, and Vulcan Energy Resources Ltd to promote vertical integration of the battery value chain for a total price of up to $34 billion.

Among them, the Belgian chemical company Umicor will form a joint venture with Volkswagen to provide lithium battery anode raw materials. "For lithium batteries, Volkswagen will continue to promote the relevant strategies continuously and quickly." Volkswagen board member Thomas Schmall said the partnership with Umiore would give Volkswagen a state-of-the-art lithium battery supply chain in Europe. Umicore also has long-term research on battery recycling technology, and the two sides will continue to develop battery recycling technology while increasing production capacity, reducing environmental impact and expected to reduce costs.
