Edwardsville Fire Chief James Whiteford reportedly said that during the tornado, the facility in the Amazon partially collapsed and the sides of the building collapsed inwards, causing the roof to collapse.

Whiteford said at a press conference on the 11th that Amazon did not have the exact number of employees at the time of the incident, because it was changing shifts at that time. Amazon later confirmed that the factory employed about 190 people who worked in multiple shifts.

Emergency responders do not expect survivors and have shifted rescue operations to recovery efforts. Whiteford said the recovery effort is expected to continue for another three days and will take place during the day.

The fierce storm swept through the central United States and formed tornadoes in Arkansas, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky and Missouri. The tornado has killed nearly 100 people, with Kentucky being the hardest hit. Meteorologists speculate that one of the "four-state tornadoes" may have set the longest-lasting tornado record in U.S. history.
