Tang Taizong Li Shimin was the "secret weapon" at the founding of the Tang Dynasty, with strong combat effectiveness and single-handedly laid down most of the walls and rivers. His account was full of fierce generals, but there were only three people who were outstanding: Luo Shixin, Qin Shubao, and Wei Chi Jingde. Among them, Luo Shixin was killed on the battlefield, and Wei Chi Jingde lost a move in the duel with Qin Shubao. Therefore, the first fierce general under Li Shimin must be Qin Shubao. However, among the famous Ling Yan Pavilion heroes, Wei Chi Jingde ranked eighth, and even Cheng Zhijie, whose merits were obviously not significant, ranked nineteenth, and Qin Shubao was honored to accompany the last seat. Why is this happening?
The War Years: The relationship between Qin Shubao and Li Shimin is very intriguing
If ranked according to seniority, Qin Shubao was earlier than Wei Chi Jingde and also higher than Cheng Zhijie. Qin Shubao was the most powerful subordinate of the Sui Dynasty general Zhang Sutuo, while Wei Chi Jingde was the Sui Dynasty's Chaoshan Dafu (a civilian official position), and Cheng Zhijie was a serious Grass Kou, and the three of them were obviously superior in military resumes. In terms of surrender time, Qin Shubao and Cheng Zhijie were both earlier than Wei Chi Jingde. In February of the second year of Tang Wude, the Tang army and the Luoyang warlord Wang Shichong fought against jiuqu, and Qin Shubao, dissatisfied with Wang Shichong's personality, surrendered to the Tang dynasty before Cheng Zhijie and other ethylene second fronts. Later, under the arrangement of Tang Gaozu Li Yuan, he went to Li Shimin's account. It was not until April of the third year of Wu De that Wei Chi Jingde surrendered to Li Shimin after the defeat of the warlords Liu Wuzhou and Song Jingang. Therefore, in terms of surrender time, Wei Chi Jingde was not as good as Qin Shubao.
However, although Qin Shubao accompanied Li Shimin all his life, he seemed to be more like Li Yuan's person than Li Shimin's cronies. After Mei Liangchuan defeated Wei Chi Jingde, Li Yuan personally gave Uncle Qin the golden vase and encouraged him: "Qing qing disregarded his wife and came far away to vote for me, and set up an effect." The flesh can be used by the Qing, and when it is cut to give the Qing, the children are jade? The secretary should be encouraged. And let him "seek to teach the Right Third Army of the King of Qin" This is a privilege that no one else has. However, it can also be seen from this that Qin Shubao was deeply appreciated by Li Yuan, the emperor of Tang Gaozu.
Moreover, in the face of the blows of the crown prince Li Jiancheng and the Qi king Li Yuanji, Qin Shubao was one of the few military generals under Li Shimin who was safe and sound. According to the Old Book of Tang, before the change of Xuanwumen, Fang Xuanling and Du Ruyi were transferred to the imperial court as officials and separated from the Qin palace; Cheng Zhijie was to be sent out to assassinate the history of Kangzhou and also to leave the Qin palace; and Wei Chi Jingde was arranged to accompany Li Yuanji on a campaign. When these pillars of the Qin Dynasty Palace were all in difficulty protecting themselves, Qin Shubao did not receive any orders.
However, this may be precisely the reason why Qin Shubao was later "cold treated". Although he has been serving under Li Shimin, his relationship with Li Yuan has made Li Shimin always wary of him. The relationship between Li Yuan's father and son is very hypocritical and cold, and Li Shimin must guard against his father from planting eyeliner around him. And Qin Shubao is indeed the most suspicious person.
On merit, Qin Shubao could not compare with Wei Chi Jingde
As mentioned earlier, Wei Chi Jingde surrendered to Li Shimin more than a year later than Qin Shubao's surrender to Tang. However, after this, Wei Chi Jingde's ascension speed was significantly faster than Qin Shubao's, and in July of the third year of Wude, he had already become the commander of the elite division Xuanjia Army together with Qin Shubao and Cheng Zhijie (Cheng Yaojin). Not only that, Li Shimin also and Wei Chi Jingde "introduced himself into the bed and gave him a golden treasure." This treatment, Qin Shubao did not enjoy. Personally, I think this is because Qin Shubao came to Li Shimin through Li Yuan, while Wei Chi Jingde was Li Shimin who directly surrendered, and the two were not close to each other.
Later, Wei Chi Jingde also saved Li Shimin's life on the battlefield. When Li Shimin was crusading against Wang Shichong, he was busy sneaking to Yuqiao to hunt, only to encounter tens of thousands of enemy troops led by the fierce general Shan Xiongxin. Seeing that his life was in danger, Wei Chi Jingde came out and stabbed Shan Xiongxin with a horse, saving Li Shimin's life; a few years later, when he was attacking Liu Heimin, Li Shimin was once again surrounded by heavy enemy troops. At the time of the crisis, it was Wei Chi Jingde who led the troops to kill, and Li Shimin was able to escape from death.
In the Xuanwumen Rebellion, Wei Chi Jingde first attacked Li Jiancheng and Li Yuanji with Li Shimin. Li Shimin accidentally fell off his horse while pursuing Li Yuanji, and Li Yuanji turned back to fight with Li Shimin to seize the bow, at this time it was Wei Chi Jingde who killed him, drove away and killed Li Yuanji. After that, the forces of the Prince's Mansion were mobilized and fought against the soldiers of the Qin Dynasty. It was Wei Chi Jingde again, holding the first rank of Jiancheng and Yuan Ji, who looked around the whole army, disintegrating the morale of the prince's side and ensuring Li Shimin's victory. Then, he attacked Li Yuan, the emperor of the palace, so that Li Shimin could enjoy the fruits of victory. With the merit of saving the car and the merit of supporting the establishment, Wei Chi Jingde had completely surpassed other military generals. He was ahead of Qin Shubao in the Ling Yan Pavilion, and he really deserved it.
Before and after the xuanwu gate change: Qin Shubao led the troops away from the battlefield after the battle.
According to the Old Book of Tang, on the day of the change of XuanwuMen, Qin Shubao stood by Li Shimin's side, and also led the soldiers and horses to fight with the prince's side, and after success, he was named the Great General of Zuo Wuwei and sealed seven hundred households, which was equivalent to another general, Cheng Zhijie. However, after that, Qin Shubao stayed away from the battlefield and recuperated at home. The reason is very sad: he is sick, and it should be the kind of weakness that wears out the vitality. After that, Qin Shubao often said to people: "My young and long horses have passed through more than two hundred battles, and they have been hit by heavy sores repeatedly. Ji Wu before and after the bleeding is also counted, and Andrew is not sick? "The warrior who once bravely championed the three armies said such a thing, which is really regrettable. After recuperating at home for twelve years, Qin Shubao died of illness and was given the title of Duke of Hu and buried with Emperor Taizong of Tang's Zhaoling Tomb.
It can be said that although before the Battle of Miragawa, Qin Shubao's credit was indeed great, even the greatest. However, after the change of Xuanwu Gate, he stagnated due to physical reasons. And the other heroes, Wei Chi Jingde, Cheng Zhijie, Li Jing, Li Ji and others, still have a lot of time to establish meritorious achievements. In this way, when Li Shimin established the Ling Yan Pavilion 5 years after Qin Shubao's death, he could still think of him, which already explained his status.
