【Party History Sound Calendar】National Memorial Day for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre

In order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the Central Broadcasting Network launched the "Party History Sound Calendar", which takes you through a hundred years of time with sound.

【Today in the History of the Party】

On December 13, 1937, the Invading Japanese Army brutally invaded Nanjing, causing the tragic Nanjing Massacre, and 300,000 compatriots were killed. December 13 is designated as the National Day of Commemoration for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre.

On December 13, 1937, the Japanese army occupied Nanjing, the capital of the Nationalist government, and began a six-week burning and looting campaign.

In the city of Nanjing, the murderous Japanese invaders carried out a brutal and bloody massacre of Chinese people. They shot and killed the Chinese defenders, who had lost their combat effectiveness, and then carried out a frenzied search throughout the city, shooting and killing countless innocent and unarmed civilians. More than 300,000 Chinese civilians and captured soldiers were collectively shot, burned, buried alive, and otherwise executed.

At the same time, one-third of the houses in the city of Nanjing were burned down and almost all shops were looted. In the month after the Japanese army entered Nanjing, there were about 20,000 rapes and gang rapes, and even young girls under 10 years old and old women in their 60s and 70s were not spared. Many women were raped and then slaughtered and destroyed.

The Nanjing Massacre was an appalling and bloody massacre committed by the Japanese invading forces. It has been called "the darkest page in the history of modern civilization" and "a record of unprecedented brutality in modern history", and it is a heinous crime committed by the Japanese imperialists against the Chinese people.

The Nanjing Massacre fully exposed the barbarism and ferocity of the Japanese militarists, and also reflected the deep suffering of the Chinese nation in being bullied and slaughtered by imperialism.

After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the International Military Tribunal for the Far East gave due punishment to the culprits of the massacre of the people of Nanjing, namely Matsui Ishigen, commander of the Japanese Central China Dispatch Army who commanded the Nanjing Massacre, and Tani Shoufu, commander of the Sixth Division.

In 2014, the Seventh Session of the Standing Committee of the Twelfth National People's Congress voted to designate December 13 as the National Day of Commemoration for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre.

"December 13, 1937", the unforgettable date written in blood and tears, records the deepest suffering of a nation, marks the darkest page in the history of human civilization; "300,000", witnessing the atrocities of the invaders to exterminate humanity, has become an indelible wound in the hearts of Chinese people. The painful history enlightens us that we must always maintain the sense of distress of thinking of danger in times of peace, remember history, not forget the past, cherish peace, create the future, unswervingly take the road of peaceful development, and jointly safeguard "peaceful times that are more precious than gold."
