(Focus on the Straits Forum) "Three Highs" Taiwan Youth's Tale of Two Cities: Landing on the Ground and Reaping Happiness

Xiamen, 11 Dec (China News Service) Title: A Tale of Two Cities in Taiwan and Qingdao: Taking Root and Reaping Happiness

China News Service reporter Lin Chunyin

Chen Wencheng from Changhua, Taiwan, in Beijing; Zhang Zhaorui from Taichung, Taiwan, in Fuzhou. The "three highs" Taiwanese youths, who have high appearance, high education and high happiness index, told their life in the twin cities of the mainland at the Straits Youth Forum held during the 13th Straits Forum.

The 13th Straits Forum continued to carry out a series of activities in Xiamen on the 11th. As the largest people-to-people exchange activity between the two sides of the strait, the Straits Forum has become a "story meeting" for Young People in Taiwan to collide with ideals and pursue happiness.

Chen Wencheng and Zhang Zhaorui's trajectories of "fantasy drifting" on the mainland are strikingly similar: the idea of "landing" germinated because of sports exchanges; they studied for a doctorate under the same tutor at Beijing Sport University; both worked as physical education teachers in mainland colleges and universities; and both took root and became "mainland aunts".

In 2010, Chen Wencheng participated in the "Cross-Strait Surprise Riding Group" and rode around the island with a group of teachers and students from Peking University for 9 days and 8 nights. While the beauty of Hualien Qingshuiya in Taiwan shocked mainland students, Chen Wencheng, who "lived in Changhua, Taiwan until the age of 20", also imagined "that side" among the mainland's peer population.

"I have planted a seed in my heart and hope to have the opportunity to go to the mainland to have a look." Chen Wencheng said.

Because his father was a professor and handball coach at Fengjia University in Taiwan, Zhang Zhaorui followed his father to the mainland to participate in cross-strait handball exchanges. "From the small tail of the team to the later team members, and then growing into the captain, I have traveled through many cities on the mainland, and I have long known that I will definitely come to the mainland in the future."

In July this year, Zhang Zhaorui's team hosted the "'Hand' Hope Dream" cross-strait handball exchange tournament and online forum, one of the series of activities of the Ninth Straits Youth Festival, in Fuzhou, which more than 20,000 cross-strait handball enthusiasts watched online.

"I have walked such a road, and I also hope that whether young people in Taiwan come to study or work in the future, the first step is to walk over and see and get to know good friends on the mainland." Zhang Zhaorui said, "Everyone come over and get a little warm- ”

"Sports exchange" and "public welfare" have become the warm labels on the two Taiwan youths. Chen Wencheng, who stayed in the Department of Physical Education and Research of Peking University, founded the public welfare platform Haidian Taiwan Youth Station in May 2019 to form the Taiwan Youth Volunteer Service Team. In April, they served the Winter Olympics test event at the Wukesong stadium.

When the new crown pneumonia outbreak broke out at the beginning of last year, Chen Wencheng, who stayed in Beijing for the New Year, stood up and signed up to volunteer for epidemic prevention in the community to guard his homeland.

"Doing public welfare, not seeing the outside, this is also the process of integration into the mainland." Chen Wencheng said.

Zhang Zhaorui's mainland basketball circle in the Fuzhou online community has climbed from finding a team of 5 people to more than 80 fans. They regularly practice their skills twice a week and exchange ideas with each other. It is also because of his continuous investment in cross-strait exchanges and assistance to Taiwan youth to come to Fujian for employment and entrepreneurship, Zhang Zhaorui won the Fujian Provincial May Fourth Youth Medal this year.

"This honor is a great recognition of what I have done." Zhang Zhaorui has also established a sports company in addition to teaching at the School of Sports Science of Fujian Normal University.

He said that now the mainland sports industry has become an investment outlet, and the "double reduction" of education encourages young people to participate in sports activities, "full of business opportunities, I am attracted to the future."

Coincidentally, the two Taiwanese youths also formed a marriage family on both sides of the strait. Chen Wencheng, the "Aunt of Haidian", is now steaming buns and steamed buns, and the northern cuisine in one hand is extremely authentic. Zhang Zhaorui, who is looking for a proud man in Fujian, has a small goal of buying a house in Fuzhou and then bringing his parents in Taichung to reunite.

"We're all fighting for our little family." Zhang Zhaorui said. (End)
